Legend ~ The Walking Tree

"Queer things you do hear these days, to be sure,” a young gardener was overheard in the Green Dragon one evening, muttering rumors the likes of fairytales to his friends and neighbors. “What about these Tree-men? They do say that one bigger than a tree was seen up away beyond the North Moors not long back.”

Tahi turned to Bywater, and  back up the Hill, as day was ending once more in a beautiful sunset in the Shire. And he went on to his village, to Overhill, and there was yellow light, and fire within; and the evening meal was ready, and he was expected by his parents. And his father Baldo drew him in, and set him in his chair, and his mother brought him his pipe and pipe-weed . He drew a deep breath. ‘Well, I’m back,’ he said - it's Spring, there must be badgers in the wood.
