The Right Direction

“I know not where they are,” insisted Culuninnel, biting back at Estarfin's accusation. “But this cloak means -”

Again the Noldo advanced so that his large horse almost trod on the Captain.

The Pace Quickens

Ceuro took the empty plate and goblet and headed back down from the lookout spot on the ridge. He had endured something of an onslaught from the angry Filignil. She was still on duty, and would be for another hour, and she was not at all amused that she had only just had the day’s happenings explained to her. The Housekeeper-come-Guard was a swift shot with a bow. None would enter Numenstaya without her knowing, and her permission.

Taking Action?

She returned nigh midday, to find Estarfin speaking casually with the Dwarven workers about the wall building. He hailed her as she rode past him to the stables. Despite his earlier words, he did not seem particularly at ease.

“Any news, Yrill?”

Words before Pursuit

Swan-Hoof had fortunately suffered no injuries, but she was restless and concerned, not only for Pelorian, but for Parnard and Danel. Both horses were tossing their heads, neighing and snorting. ‘Could the horses but speak,’ Yrill thought, not for the first time in her life.

It was the Elf, Estarfin, who had asked us to build a defensive wall for him. We did not often take any orders from Elves. Neither would we have been overly willing for carrying out his request, but we knew of the Lady, whose home it was. Carnifinde of Thargelion was a name known to us, also as Danel of Eregion. She was a 'Dwarf friend' of old. And this Estarfin, also of Thargelion, had written a polite enough letter, showing he acknowledged our skills. Those skills with stone that were superior to that of Elves.

Ceuro walked with us ter the gate. He wished us 'Namarie', and we wished him the same.

"I have told you all I can," he said. "Where the group of Men were last with our friends, and where we think they are heading. If your friends are with them, they are heading North. There is little choice of destination in that direction other than the white wilderness of Forochel, or the stricken sky of Angmar. It is my hope they are not taken that far. May Elbereth watch over you both, whatever you chose to do."

Visiting them Elves

We were greeted by two tall, stern faced Elves. They weren't that welcoming ter be honest, no tea or cake, but neither did they ignore us, or tell us ter go away. It was a serious matter right enough, fer them as well as us.

I ask them if we can speak ter High Lord Parnard, Lord Estarfin or Lady Danel, but they say them are not there at the moment. Then, rightly or wrongly Lithea tells them about Henepa and Gaisarix being taken by brigands, and the Elves look meaningfully at each other.

Parnard rose to his feet and bowed before Estarfin as he approached us. He looked a little weary to me, though not overly so. We tried to take regular shifts of guard duty, he and I, Yrill and Ceuru and Filignil. Barahirn protested he was also able to take his turn, but we deemed he needed a couple more weeks rebuilding his strength.

“I was hoping to drag Naergon out of his musings, but I haven’t seen him all day,” Earcalie said. “He has moved here as well. Waiting to make his mind up about sailing. You do remember him?”

Estarfin joined us, giving his greetings to Earcalie. He sat down beside me.

"Earcalie does important work, guarding the caravans from the coast, meldanya. But I would have her take extra care." I said.
