A Hobbit's Journal - Well Preserved

I know I said I’m not really the ‘settling’ type, still ‘tis nice to have a place to call ‘home’ rather than just a room in an Inn. Spent the last two days moving furniture and cleaning, as well as cooking and eating. My new home is not a grand and fancy mansion like elves have, or a vast and rich hall like the one the dwarves live in, ‘tis just a small (comfortable) hole in the ground, but ‘tis a place I can come back to, close the door and let the world outside.

When I moved in I found a sheep in the garden, kind of a friendly creature, all soft and fluffy, all my attempts to remove it from the flower beds have failed so I guess I have a new house buddy, but at least I will never run out of warm woolen mittens and fluffy sweaters.  In other news I went down to Michel Delving for some errands the other day and met a new smile. Yes yes, you can roll your eyes all you’ll like, but I cannot help it,  in life you meet folk, it is a thing you cannot avoid, not unless you go and live on top of a mountain, or are one of those lonely elves walking around with sad eyes mumbling "...woe on me... " at the stars and the sea all the time.

Anyhow, nice chap, really friendly, great smile and a twinkle in his eyes also, which always helps. Obviously one of the Stoor clan, like my brother Tahitoa. Always nice to see new faces. In more other news, I wrote to Nannie and Simbo and told them I shall be going to the Green Dragon for a pint or two, and some music  this Friday. I have not seen the hobbits in like forever, so it will be nice. It just occurred to me that this year we will celebrate a huge milestone as we have been together in Shire Rose for TEN long years, can you believe that? Where did all the time go?

I cannot claim to be a ‘young’ hobbit really, more like ‘well preserved’ like a lovely  matured cheese, and the sweetest wine, but with age comes wisdom and peace ( apparently ), though in truth I still feel the same as I did  years ago when I moved to Brightdown. More news, Tahitoa and Winterly and baby Toanui are well and happy. And yes, the day he got married the hearts of half of the lasses in the Shire were broken, for Tahi was always at the center of the ladies attention, but a man needs to settle eventually and he and Winterly are the perfect couple. I could go on writing more on the subject of ‘love and family’ but maybe another time.

So this is all for now, I wish I could write more but ‘tis almost time for Second Breakfast which I must attend of course. Oh and by the way, the mysterious disappearance of all the sausages in the Shire is still...well a mystery. There is not one single sausage left and this is very strange. I suspect someone has been hoarding  sausages...but why?  I could ask the bounders to investigate, if only I could find one that is not lazy and not sleeping off their ale curled up under a lantern by the side of a bridge, the best job in the world...obviously.
