The Attack on Hamglen

Fiontann rode through Chetwood alone. That gave him a lot of time to think about what had happened in the last two days and what should be done in the . The attack on Hamglen was heavy. The Barracks were burnt and heavily damaged, but at least no one was wounded. That man, being, whatever it was, came pounding trying to get The Black Steel to cooperate and retrieve the gem that his mistress wanted. He warned the group of the company when they were returning from Ered Luin, but no one wanted to give in. Unthinkable, the Black Steel to give in to threats from someone whom they fight. No, never! The man appeared in Hamglen for a second time, after the group's arrival. He ordered them to retrieve a yellow gem from the Old Greenway Fort for his mistress or the company would regret it. The company refused and the stranger left. At midnight he returned with reinforcements. walking skeletons that sprouted from the earth and attacked the Barracks. Fiontann, Zavas and Dindrik were guarding the entrance to Hamglen, not expecting such a trick. The rest of the company were in the Barracks, resting and preparing for such an attack, what came was unexpected.
At midnight the Dwarf, Zavas returned to the Barracls to seek some ointment for the injury that he sustained on the return from Ered Luin. Then came Bregeswith from her business. Gaeded, Bregeswith, Athlenah, Varothomir, Flynagin, Cedwyn and Tom Heatherway where there already. Some were gathered around the map-table chatting about the events of those past days, some were resting and some were listening because they were away before that. It all started with the door opening with no apparent reason. First the company heard it slam against the door, then the chilly wind settled on the back of their neck along with a sense of dread in their stomach. Those closest to the door made that way to see what it was, but before they even reached the door-frame that leads to the ante-chamber the window on the stage broke. Everyone turned. A skeleton was trying to get inside. Zavas who was in front of the window covered the distance between him and it with two strides and punched the skull sending the skeleton back staggering only to be replaced by two more. Bregeswith and Varothomir were the closest to the door and ran to see what was going on outside. White-ish skeletons were moving in the yard in a slow march without a rhythm or discipline, they were closing in. The Rohir and the Gondorian locked the door and the tall woman threw her weight against it. She felt several pounds behind her but the wooden frame held on. In the main room Athlenah joined Zavas accompanied by her bow and she started shooting at another window that had just broken. Cedwyn crawled away from the bed she was on trying to get to her bow and Gaeded and Flynagin ran to join the two that held the door. Tom hid behind a bookcase.
Fiontann and Dindrik were oblivious of the attack. They barricaded the entrance to the hamlet with a wagon and positioned themselves behind it with weapons in hands. Almost simultaneously with the others, the man and the Dwarf got attacked by a handful of skeletons. They appeared outside the gate and Dindrik charged at them without a second thought. Fiontann stood by the guard keeping an eye on the Dwarf's back, but soon he joined the fray before the skeletons surrounded Dindrik. The fight went on for some time and when the skeletons were all on the ground the two saw a flame rising and crashing somewhere on the Northwestern side of the hamlet.
"That's the Barracks," said Fion and looked at the Dwarf who noded and both ran back. Fiontann mounted Hedinn and the Dwarf rode behind him much to his annoyance. The horse galloped fast and on their way back Fion and the Dwarf managed to gather a few more for support. Canndice, Remis, Lheuwen and Carmillia. The six of them attacked the skeletons from behind, not before they shot two more bolts with the ballista outside the Barracks at the building. Fiontann and the Dwarf obliterated the war maching and the rest stuck together and fought. Dindrik took one side of the yard alone and Fiontann rode with the horse picking up those that threatened to flank his company. When those inside realised that a fight broke out in the yard the jumped out of the windows and trapped the attackers between two lines. The company then finished them off and their leader disappeared in the night.
The next day the Barracks was still smoking and he yard was littered with bones and weapons and the various things that the attackerrs used to break through the door. The company rested as best they could and gathered at  The Thirsty Boar. After a long talk the decision was made. Go find the yellow gem....
