Calad Feanor

The Gate of Feanor, more commonly known in the 3rd Age as the Door of Durin, forms the entrance to the ancient dwarven city of Khazad-dum, that has long since been overrun by goblins and orcs. Now it is named Moria - meaning "dark pit" - by the elves, as it is no longer a shining cultural hub, but a dark tomb for the dwarves and their folly - Durin's Bane. It is commonly heard, that they "delved too greedily, and too deep" for mithril when they unearthed the Balrog of Morgoth, and rightfully so. The Dwarves may be great miners and blacksmiths... but they are also too covetous for their own good...

The password to enter the door is contained in a riddle inscribed directly on the door itself: "Speak, friend, and enter." The answer to this riddle is the Sindarin word for friend, or "mellon". Like many important Dwarven doors, the Door of Durin and the Angerthas runes upon it can only be seen in the moonlight of certain nights.
