Outward Appearance

Tall but gracile, this Eldar has the fine features of his race, clear grey eyes and hair the color and sheen of burnished beech-wood worn to his shoulders. He is lightly attired in simple hunting leathers of elvish make, well-worn and fitted to his slender figure. He goes lightly armed as many silvan elves with a fine bow and simple knives.

Tindello has a fine, light voice with the singing accents of the Silvan folk, and a distant, dreaming demeanor that seems to yearn always to some unseen horizon. In movement and gesture he is graceful and lithe but in a fashion that underlines his seeming not entirely present.

In spite of this air, his eye is keen and his aim is true, and his woodcraft more than suffices to keep him alert to any peril. He will seldom abide long under any roof, prefering open woodlands under the bright and distant stars.

Background

Tindello was born at the end of the Second Age, after the captivity of Sauron but before the fall of Númenor. His father was a Nandor of Ossiriand and his mother an elf of the Falas who settled in Lindon at the end of the First Age. His father perished in the War of the Last Alliance. Having seen both her sons grown to maturity, His mother has recently taken ship to Eldamar to be reunited with her husband when he returns from the Halls of Mandos.

Tindello is aware of the Dûnedain of the North, and is ready to support them, even to the extent of offering sanctuary for them at need in Elven lands beyond the Lune. His sole experience of active warfare was as an archer in the host of Cirdan of the Havens at the Battle of Fornost in TA 1975 when the Witch King was driven from Eriador. He is kndly disposed toward the little people of the country known in Elvish as i Drann, but respects their seclusion and is sparing of his presence in their lands. He has no great love for Dwarves, but regards the folk of Thorin's Halls as valuable allies against goblins infesting the Ered Luin. He and his household are on fine terms with the Elves of Rivendell.

Tindello has largely dwelt, with his twin brother, Tavelorn, in the forests of eastern Lindon, between the Lune and the Blue Mountains, where he has pursued a simple but rich life as a forester, hunter and protector of the borders. Even when he has passed west of the mountains, he has kept to the woodlands and has not seen the sea, knowing he would be torn between his love of the forests of Middle Earth and the call to the True West.

Tindello is descended on his father's side from the Nandorin lord, Lenwë through Daintáro (in Sindarin, Denethor) who first brought the silvan folk into Beleriand. While this high lineage shows in face and form, he holds no special status even as a leader amongs the elves who range the woodlands.

"Tenderleaf" is the Westron rendering of his byname, Nethenlas, denoting a new leaf of Spring in recognition of his seeming youth in spite of his years.

More regarding the heritage of Tindello, and of Tavelorn his brother, may be read in the lore collected at Brethilimbar-on-Lhun.
