Background

In the year 2998 of the Third Age, on the island settlement of Tinnudir, an aging ranger and his wife were blessed with a son, after many years of waiting. They named this boy, their only son, Laegol, meaning Greencloak, and instantly began to raise him as a ranger of the Dûnedain. Laegol's father, Randirion, knew that he was not long for this world, so he trained his son up to be a suitable replacement for him, after his passing. Very young did Laegol begin to learn many important skills, such as woodcutting, fishing, hunting, and moving swiftly and silently through many kinds of terrain. When the boy grew old enough to hold a sword, his father taught him how to fight with it, as well as with bows, knives, spears, javelins, and more. Randirion often took his son with him on errands all around northern Eriador, going as far east as Imladris and as far north as Kauppa-kohta, home to the Lossoth. In his teenage years, when he probably should have been safe at home, Laegol became fairly-well travelled for a boy so young.

It was the way that Randirion raised him, bestowing onto him both practical skills and important knowledge of discipline, honor, and the history of their people, that allowed Laegol to swear in as a Ranger of Evendim in 3019, at the age of 21. During the war, he had been a cadet responsible for running messages to and from various ranger camps, but he was forced into action a few times, due to the danger the world faced. Gauredain, goblins and grave robbers were all common threats, and necessity drove Laegol to spill blood and enter manhood before it was his time. It was also during the war that his father Randirion was slain by the Angmarim in Annúminas, dying an old but strong man.

After the war, Laegol continued to fulfill his duty as a ranger, protecting the innocent folk of the north and gaining valuable life experience. He is a very independent-minded young man who often likes to travel. Tales of far-off lands such as Gondor stir him to wandering, sometimes without the best purpose. Throughout his lonesome journeys, he eventually fell in with a small group of rangers and other folk, led by Aranarion, with whom he still travels to this day. Hopefully, remaining in the company of those senior to him will teach him more discipline and keep him from mischief, such as wandering off randomly or smoking too much pipe-weed.
