Recounts of Remington – Entry 2,326 – New Friends

I shall begin by offering a heartfelt apology to my most avid readers for not adding to this growing recount in some time. The weeks since my poorly planned, yet well-received return to Bree have been so very occupied that I have had no time to jot down my experiences – beyond, of course, that of business and the oh-so-important record keeping that is expected of such an esteemed professional.

So, hold on to your hat – this’ll be a long one!

I have made a great number of friends, as one would expect, varying in familiarity and association – but all equally beautiful and remarkable in their own way. I shall take a moment to summarise each, so that you might understand both their value and appeal.

Barliman: What a man! By far one of the most efficient and delightful proprietors that I have ever met. He and I hit it off almost immediately, as I expected, and it turns out he is quick to prioritise customers of high regard. I have a knack for gathering a great number of people for an evening of festivities – resulting in the consistent and considerable exchange of coin. Business is good for him when I am around, and he is quick to demonstrate his appreciation generously.

Morvyra: A quiet, shy and secretive girl. I enjoy her company, even if, oddly, she does not seem to enjoy mine. A strange concept, I know – for I am simply wonderful! Perhaps I will grow on her? Either way, she claimed to be a “Natural Philosopher” – whatever that is, and I am rather keen to find out more. Should I ever spot her fetching auburn locks again I’ll investigate and report back immediately.

Greengrove: Where does one even begin? What a phenomenal gentleman. I have never met anyone quite like him. I have a lot of friends as you know, but none of them offer the same individuality that Master Greengrove does. My adoration of the man grows like the flora of his attire, and I find myself awaiting his return with eager anticipation. Such a delight! In time, I’ve a feeling we will be the best of friends.

Silverstream: The radiant, beautiful and awe-inspiring wife of Master Greengrove. A remarkable woman, who has bagged herself a diamond of a husband. I haven’t had much time or opportunity to build upon our friendship yet, but I sincerely hope that we will spark as bright as Greengrove and I. Perhaps a dinner date with the pair, or afternoon tea is in order? Yes. I think that would be sublime.

Dernwynn: An intriguing and exquisite woman, and she knows it. Much like Master Greengrove and I, we clicked immediately, and I find we are often in one another’s company. She swats me away like a gnat in a marsh, but I can tell each deflection is weaker than the last. It is only a matter of time, and perseverance – two things I possess in generous quantities. I am wearing her down, one way or another and it is so very entertaining! I do enjoy a challenge – you know that.

Folcwulf: Short and sweet was our meeting, but I am impressed. An interesting man that tugs at my insatiable curiousity. Our interaction was brief, but his association with Dernwynn will likely offer future opportunities for our friendship to bloom. I look forward to it!

Lotherwen: An interesting and quite lovely mercenary, I think. She can appear a little boisterous and intense at first, but that does not reflect her mirth and playful nature in the slightest! We had an absolute blast with a bottle of brandy, and I cannot wait for our next session. I could do with another moment of careless bliss and such liberation is best served with a helping of joy and laughter. Lotherwen would see to that.

Myrelle: As sweet as the scent that drifts behind her! She is an inquisitive and curious florist who has been utterly wonderful company of late – a beautiful wisp that seems to appear from nowhere. It is undeniably glorious to have her at my side and I am becoming rather fond of those fleeting moments. But. She cannot escape! For she and I are going to be bound for some time at least – first by adventure, and then as partners in the restoration of my neglected abode. She keeps to herself more than I would like, and I would never wish to make her any more uncomfortable than I think I might’ve, but I am confident that an unbreakable relationship will blossom soon enough. Ha! Blossom!

Kelynn: Eager, driven and simply wonderful. Those are the three words I’d use to describe this merry little peddler. With a smile that could change the heart of the most depressed individuals and a wide variety of goods, she will go far. Unfortunately, she attempted to charm the master, but I saw the opportunity to share some wisdom with the girl, even if she didn’t seem to get it. A little practice reading her potential customers and she’ll be able to sell water to a duck. Terrific!

Skarly: The eccentric and fabulous lady in red. An odd character, but very sweet and thus far harmless. I have been told she is a ‘witch’, but I don’t believe it. She is neither ugly nor sinister – quite the opposite, in fact! She gave me a gift too, and it has been a very long time since someone has done that. I shall be forever grateful for her generosity and kindness, and I hope to return the favour one day. In fact, when I see her next, I shall be sure to find out where she resides so that I can have something sent to her. Now isn’t that a fantastic idea!?

Sicarra: Another brief and enjoyable encounter. Though she says nothing and hears even less – her’s and Skarly’s company was pleasant. Kind and polite, as a barmaid should be, she gives little away, and I am keen to mine deeper into such a curious and hidden mind. The alluring serving girl with the mesmerising freckles gave me her name, for her translator in red did not.

Wynnie: How can I possibly describe perfection with my simple hand and limited mind? How can I record her importance in a way that captures both my adoration and obsession without being too intense or lessening what we have? I have enjoyed every moment we have spent together and find her company during the otherwise lonely days to act as a way of grounding me. It is a rare thing, to have stolen my attention like this. I only hope that my love is reciprocated and someday she will break her silence and declare it with as much enthusiasm as I have in every conversation we share.

Well, I think that ought to do it for now. No more, you nosey fiends! You shall have to wait for the next entry – which no doubt will be soon, as I have so much to tell you.

Be patient, my dears and contain your excitement. If you are too keen, you’ll do something foolish again – and we wouldn’t want that, now would we?
