An Interview with Brynleigh - Part 2

Part 3: Past Influences

29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far? I suppose I would say leaving home and traveling north when I was younger. If I hadn’t done that, my life would be vastly different. I would have missed out on many things.

30. Who has had the most influence on you? My...late husband.

31. What do you consider your greatest achievement? I don’t feel that I’ve achieved anything I would call great. I don’t pursue greatness.

32. What is your greatest regret? ...I would say letting my husband go to work that morning, but such things cannot be foreseen.

33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done? *a very long pause for thought* I cannot think of any particular thing. But I have a notion it might come down to hurting someone, without intending to.

34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind? I did spend one night in a jail cell in the north.

35. When was the time you were the most frightened? I have been charged by orcs twice in my life. There is nothing more frightening than facing down a beast whose only desire is to kill you.

36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you? Nothing terribly embarrassing comes to mind, quite frankly.

37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why? *lowers eyes* My husband would not be gone.

38. What is your best memory? The day I got married.

39. What is your worst memory? The day I learned he was gone.

Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions

40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic? Forgive me, I need a moment after those last few questions… Can you ask the question again? Ah. I think I fall somewhere in the middle. I was much more optimistic when I was younger. Life seems to have a way of kneading that out of me.

41. What is your greatest fear? Having my heart destroyed again. I would not survive it.

42. What are your religious views? I’m not familiar with this term. Higher powers? I do believe in the gods, yes. The Great Hunter guides the sons and daughters of Éorl.

43. What are your political views? I do not have much interest in such things. I wish that people would live peacefully with their fellows.

44. What are your views on sex? *soft chuckle* My views? What precisely does that mean? I do not think this is a question to be asked so lightly.

45. Are you able to kill? If you mean, do I have the physical ability? Yes, I do. I have never killed anyone, however, and I have little wish to.

46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do? There are a great many evils that Men are capable of. I’m not sure it’s prudent to try and compare them to see which is the worst. I would rather not speak aloud the things that come to mind.

47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love? Absolutely.

48. What do you believe makes a successful life? I suppose that depends on one’s interpretation of the word “success”. I would like to live in peace, free from war or pestilence or violence. I would like to love again, and perhaps be blessed with children. I do not want much in this life.

49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)? *a long pause* Can we go to the next question?

50. Do you have any biases or prejudices? I imagine most people do, whether they realize it or not. Whether they wish to admit it or not. For example, my people are known for their wariness of those who dwell in the Dwimordene. I have walked there once upon a time, and while it is a strange and devoutly guarded land, it is not full of witches and sorcerers as some would say. Most biases are taught to us as children, and are difficult to unlearn.

51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? There are many things I would refuse to do.

52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)? I have gone to extremes and would again, for anyone I loved. I would give my life for others, or in service to my King and country. I am not afraid of death as I might have been once

Part 5: Relationships With Others

53. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? I am polite to all upon first introduction. How I respond to them after that is largely up to them.

54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why? Right now...a certain man. Why? Our lives have become rather entwined.

55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why? Perhaps my friend, Gamferth. He has never been anything but kind, caring, and selfless to everyone around him. I have never seen him do or say anything out of his own self interests.

56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? I will always love Cesistya, an elf who has lodged in the north for a long while. I see Baldmar the wanderer rarely, but he is a friend for life. Gamferth, of course. Waelden is a new friend, another man of the Riddermark. And Aeruthuil...though he is far away.

57. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person. I had a spouse. There is someone currently that I care for, yes. Describe him, hmm? I think I would rather keep that to myself for now.

58. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened. *a soft sigh, and a long pause* I have loved more deeply than anyone could ever fathom. I married him and believed we would share our joy until long after we were both dead and buried. He is no longer with us.

59. What do you look for in a potential lover? *another deep breath* Honesty. Gentleness. Passion. Though I do not take lovers as some might use the term. If I love someone, I wish to love them solely and forever.

60. How close are you to your family? Well, they reside but a day’s ride from here. But we do not correspond or visit often.

61. Have you started your own family? Unfortunately not

62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help? The same man I mentioned earlier. I do not keep many people close enough to trust them with such things.

63. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why? Ah, well, what a timely question! Hmm. Protection of my physical safety and well being, yes. I believe any of those I named a friend would do their utmost to protect me as I would them. They are good and honorable souls. But do I trust anyone to protect my heart? ...I'm working on that.

64. If you died or went missing, who would miss you? My employer, Elfswith. My friends, I should hope.

65. Who is the person you despise the most, and why? I cannot think of anyone that I despise. Resentment isn’t the same thing.

66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict? I will argue if I feel strongly about my point. But I do not enjoy arguments.

67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations? No, I don’t think so. I prefer being left to myself and my own affairs.

68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not? No. I prefer peace and quiet.

69. Do you care what others think of you? Only those people that I have some sort of investment in. Those I respect or care for.
