Low Morale

Weary from his journey to Esteldín and news of a young child’s death at the hands of one of his own had left the warrior with little patience that afternoon. The infighting between his kinsmen only made matters worse. They argued back and forth about who would be responsible for the only surviving sibling and with no one willing to accept that responsibility, the problem ultimately fell upon the Knight Commander to find a solution.

Cynraede’s student could not understand why the Knight Commander or even the others allowed a child-killer to go unrestrained. The huntress Sarnai was fuming at the news of a child-slaying but it soon became clear her outrage was mere posturing after she vehemently refused to foster the survivor.

At a time when the Order needed to be most careful, a young light had been snuffed out by carelessness and the offender once again shielded from retribution.

“What of Ahmo, Hellena or even himself. Had they no decency? Why did they not just take up their swords against the Half-sighted one and serve his remains to the villagers as payment?” Gaeros wondered.

The bickering faded into the background as the warrior stormed off to go empty his drinking horn by a warm fire. Alone.
