Outward Appearance

Sarnai is a short young woman, at four feet and ten inches in height (roughly 1.47m), of lean, athletic, practically boyish build and golden tan complexion. Her appearance likely indicates Rhûnish descent. She has very dark eyes and a small, slightly broken nose, with several scars marring her face. An odd combination of angular and soft facial features gives her a youthful but somewhat androgynous appearance. More scars are present on the rest of her body, but given her usual attire, the only visible ones are some pale lines on her callused hands and a particularly large, ugly scar on her throat. Her straight, dark hair would fall to her hips if it were untangled, but more often seems shorter and more voluminous due to its often wild and knotted nature when she spends her days in travel. Consequently, it usually falls in a tangled mass or is held in a tight braid.

Sarnai typically speaks softly and with accented Westron. Her voice has a characteristic rasp, as if she is perpetually afflicted with a sore throat or some other ailment. She carries herself with dignity, although she often avoids makes eye contact and slightly favors one leg. Typically, Sarnai avoids taking up too much space with her physicality, but she tends to shrug off or brush away people who would put their hands on her, silently demanding what little space she requires.

On most days, Sarnai wears a patched overcoat and trousers stitched together of various hides, along with a broad leather belt, a pair of riding boots and a pack containing her usual essentials as a self-sufficient warrior and frequent huntress. However, the course of her life has turned once again to war, and she has taken to wearing a long red gambeson and a surprisingly fine suit of armor on occasion, the craftsmanship and design of which appear Rhûnish in origin. Those who catch her at a formal occasion would likely see her dressed in a knee-length pink silk tunic and trousers adorned with rose motifs, and a band of flowers in her well-combed hair.

She is usually armed with a composite bow of Rhûnish make, a spear, and half a dozen daggers at a minimum, with up to two such blades in visible locations, and keeps a full quiver of arrows as a policy. At her belt, Sarnai currently wears a curved blade and a fine, straight sword that seems like nothing else she carries. To assist in her particular draw, she wears a ring of bone on her thumb almost perpetually.

Sarnai is often seen in the company of a horse from her native lands: a short, shaggy-coated and unshod dun mare wearing surprisingly fine tack. Despite her somewhat wild appearance, the horse seems clean and quite healthy. She occasionally carries on one-sided conversations with said horse, which seems quite level-headed and well-trained enough to come to Sarnai's side with a whistle. When given enough time to prepare for battle, Sarnai tends to braid her horse's long mane and tail to keep them from becoming handholds.

OOC Note: She can often be found at the Warhorse Inn!

Background

It is obvious from her appearance and accent that Sarnai came from Rhûn some years ago, but she doesn't spread information about herself when she can help it. By her attire, stance, and habits, she appears to have been a warrior for a long time. The many scars upon her skin appear to be marks of hardship or at least misfortune more than carelessness. While she is likely younger than twenty-five years old, her worn and weathered body occasionally seems to say otherwise.

Those who see her fight can tell that she is well-trained and rather experienced; she likely began learning weapons at a young age. Although she prefers the mobility of a horse and the range of her composite bow, something about her changes noticeably when she fights in close quarters on foot. She is strong for her small size and makes up for her small stature with speed and precision, using weapons that even out her disadvantage in reach or closing in to get inside her opponent's guard and make herself difficult to hit.

Some people might have heard a rumor that she once spent over an hour sitting in jail without charges, because the watchman responsible thought it might prevent further violence by a group of men threatening to kill her.

She has been seen around Bree-town for several seasons now, and is best known as a rather reclusive hunter who sells what she brings in at fair prices. Very observant individuals might notice that she still returns to civilization rather rarely. Before its destruction, she was occasionally seen at the Warhorse Inn.
