Daisy was pleased to find her friends, Lowenna and Rowena, waiting for her on the other side of the door. She stepped outside and embraced each in turn. They were gratified to learn that she was doing alright, despite her lack of sleep. She then let them in to see how the man they helped rescue was faring. Each remarked in hushed voices how different he looked now compared to when they discovered him held captive in the camp.
They continued their conversation outside so as not to disturb the unconscious man, though Daisy began to wonder if it would be better to try to wake him up. The healer informed her that if he didn't eat something soon, not only would his body not have the strength to heal, but he might very well die of starvation.
The girls then brought up the main thing they stopped by to discuss. That morning they convinced a few of the Town Guard to come with them to investigate the camp where they'd had their violent encounter the day before. A young woman named Carria overheard their conversation and offered to come along to support as needed. Together they marched to the site, only to find it abandoned. A few burnt out fire pits, wheel ruts, and several odds and ends were left behind to indicate that a number of people did indeed camp there recently; but there were no souls in sight save for the boars that were beginning to move back into the area. Judging by the state of things, it seemed they left in a hurry. The group poked around a bit to see if they could learn anything before heading back to town. The girls were torn between being disappointed at not catching the villains in the act of some heinous crime and relieved to discover the threat had apparently vacated the area.
Daisy, for one, was relieved. At this point, she was just glad to be out of any imminent danger, leaving her free to figure out how to proceed. The three friends talked for a few hours that afternoon about what it all meant, what they thought of the man—Lugiri, they remembered his name to be—under Daisy's care, and what she intended to do now that her life had undeniably changed.
In the end, Daisy said goodbye and thanked them dearly for being such brave, supportive friends. After they left, her body felt weak, and she realized she hadn't eaten anything all day. She went over to the Mess Hall and fixed up a simple stew, eating some, but bringing the rest home in the hopes that she could give it to the man.
This man, Lugiri, was the key to everything, she thought. He could finally tell her about her past, and knowing who he was and... who they were would be critical in deciding about her future.
If he ever woke up.
