Annúminas Journal Entry 1: Defense of Echad Garthadir

My company and I have been stationed at the former capital of Arnor for now, which seems to find itself in quite a sorry state since last I laid eyes upon it. I have gotten word of the activities that have taken place here from others of my kin, although I had refused to believe that the ill news was entirely true.

We are held up with the main force of Dúnedain for now, at the settlement known as Echad Garthadir. Upon our arrival, we were met by severe resistance by the Angmarim who seek to remove my people from our ancient city. If not for the bravery of my fellows, I fear that we may have lost much ground in this conflict.

Among those of my kin who defended our encampment was some stranger, who went by the name of Edrastel. I am unsure of what to think of him, although he proved to be of some use in the battle.

We took several casualties in the engagement, and few could say they were unharmed in the end. I myself am now recovering from several injuries, although I believe I will be well soon enough.

Among the foes we encountered, the greatest who assailed us was a Gorthorog, some fell troll half-breed by the look of it. Its hide is thick, and it took many wounds that would have proved fatal to any lesser being. Only after great effort was my company able to bring it down, or should I say that Lady Baelaith, along with her keen eye was able to find a weak spot in the fell beasts defense.

All has been quiet since that initial encounter, and I figure I may as well take note of these ruins which still remain, as the Evendim seems to slowly be swallowing the city whole, and it would be a great tragedy should the splendor of this city be lost forever.
