How life can change in just a matter of moments.A day that started under the light of the warm sun and loving company, ended in darkness and pain.
I spent most of the afternoon in Eredian's company when he came to join me as I sat sketching on the bank, overlooking the waterfall in Trestlebridge. He asked if he could see what I have sketched in my notebook, and so I gave it to him. This is the first time anyone has seen them, and I must admit that I nervously looked on as he flipped through the pages, especially when he stopped to look at the one I have drawn of him.I had thought that he might be upset with me for drawing him secretly, but all he asked was for me to show them to him, should I draw more of him in the future.
I had seen that he was carrying his lute with him and asked him to play for me.I could tell that he got a bit nervous, telling me he had never played for anyone else before, but he did, and the music was beautiful, even peaceful. I felt a sense of calm come over me as he played, and one of the songs was even his own work. What a talented man he is! I am fortunate to have him in my life.
As we returned to the others the sun started to go down and darkness had only just begin to fall when everything changed! We all heard the calls and screams of the guards up on the bridge, and quickly we grabbed our weapons and set off up the hill to see what was going on.What I then saw, I wish I never have to see again.Orcs storming across the bridge, climbing over the barriers to reach the town of Trestlebridge.Suddenly finding ourselves in the midst of chaos, fighting side by side with the guards to try and push the attack back.I must say I am impressed with my friends skills with their bows.Arthasdir and Aeirillen did easily stop some of the attacking orcs in their tracks, diminishing the amount that came towards the rest of us.For a long time, that seemed to be going on for forever, all I heard was the sound of clashing blades and shields splintering among the screams and calls. Then, I felt the pain in my leg.I can swear I saw stars flashing before my eyes when the orc swinged his club to hit me on the side of the knee, sending me to the ground. As he leaned over me to finish the job a small rock came flying and hit him in the eye, sending him stumbling away from me.Surprised I had looked around and have found that brave little hobbit Goredaric standing a few feet away, holding a slingshot.Imagine being saved by that! I also have Rothrian to thank, going after an orc as she did, after his axe had grazed my arm.I'm amazed by the fighting skills of my friends, watching Yorva push her way through the masses of orcs, shield held in front of her. What strength that woman holds!
Finally the attack was pushed back and we all have now returned to our camp at the bottom of the hill. Some of us wounded, others unscathed, all of us quiet and contemplating.Writing this I sit here pondering, glad that no one got seriously hurt, but worried for the future of the town of Trestlebridge.
Note to self: I really need to write more often.
