After Glaurung had left Nargothrond, Telpenaro was curious enough to enter it once again, but the air was stale and a lot of places had soot after the dragon. The sight was sad to him, and yet he was prepared to what he saw. He took some of his family belongings, but he wondered whether he dared to look at his mother's garden. Eventually he did because to his surprise the air was more fresh closer to the area.
He took a look inside, and the glass on of the windows on wall and ceiling had been broken, allowing the rain to pour in. Else the enemy had largely ignored the place, and the plants had bewildered rather than wilted for thirst. Some of the plants were brown, brittle and gone, but the rare flower that Telpenaro's mother had planted was still alive, but not blooming within the gloom. Telpenaro took some of the seeds and returned to his house to plant them. He would not let the flower die for the memory of his mother's love, but it would bloom anywhere he stays.
In a time when he heard that Gondolin had also fallen he wondered how long the peace at his home would last. Once a group of unknown Elves passed his way, and to him they looked strange. ”Mae Govannen, how can I help you?”, he asked. Their leader told him: ”I am captain Líremír of the army of Finarfin”, he said. Telpenaro's eyes widened when he recognized the name of Finrod's father. Líremir was a Noldo of Aman, and his two companions were Sarindo who was also a Noldo, and Fainórë the Vanya, a new kind of sight for him.
”We hail from West of the Sea. Our mission is to deliver a warning to all the Elves living in these parts, and we were told by your friends that one who was honored by Lord Finrod lives here. But we will need a token for such a claim”, he continued. They introduced each other, and Telpenaro called them inside for a meal, and to discuss about the matter which brought them there.
”The Valar themselves will join this battle against Morgoth”, Fainórë started, ”and thus great forces are on the move. A large part of Beleriend is already marred by him, and it is possible that these parts will face their force. We cannot guarantee the safety of those who stay in the western parts of Beleriand. We suggest that you take only what you need with you most, and join us.”
Telpenaro looked around. ”To leave all of this?”, he said. Fainórë answered: ”My kin has barely moved to battle in Middle-Earth except when the Valar would do so. And there are many of my kind joining the battle now, and we need all the able Elves to help us in this war. Heed our words”. Telpenaro seemed to be more convinced.
”Now, about the token...”, Líremír said again and gestured his hand. Telpenaro nodded and went to get his pendant. Sarindo took it and at once drew the sword out of it. ”You already knew what it is?”, Telpenaro asked. ”Yes, I was told about such tokens by Finrod himself. We were asked to look for his kin”, Sarindo aswered and handed the pendant back to Telpenaro, who looked even more surprised. ”Told by Finrod?” Líremír answered: ”He has been re-embodied, and he lives again in Aman with his loved ones. He won't be returning to Beleriand again. But his father Finarfin is here, waiting for the scouts' return as well as reinforcements”.
After marveling for a while for the happy news about his former master, Telpenaro considered about joining the battle, and eventually he agreed. ”You can take what food you can to help the soldiers. I would not have it spoiled”, he said to them. ”We can help you to empty this place”, they answered, and so they left. He joined the army and the presence and leadership of Finarfin was awe-inspiring – something that he would surely not forget. His spear arm again remembered it's strength, and many Orcs fell ahead him.
In one of the days the earth quaked and he saw Beleriand sinking into the sea foam with a great rumble, in the direction where Nargothrond and his home once was. ”Retreat! Don't be scared – this is to be expected”, he heard Fainórë shouting, grabbing his arm as he stood in a shock.
Eventually the war was won and Morgoth was taken away from Middle-Earth but Beleriand was almost entirely lost. With it was lost also nearly everything Telpenaro once had, and he had to rebuild his life anew in Second Age. ”Perhaps I know where you could start”, Líremír told him when Telpenaro told him his concerns. ”Galadriel the daughter of Finarfin is still in Middle-Earth, and whether she leaves is not sure. If you are still willing to serve the House of Finarfin as you always have, seek her”.
Telpenaro nodded, as to him it seemed like a good idea. To Telpenaro Galadriel was like Finrod in a form of a lady as his sister, being as fair and wise, and she also had his admiration. ”Farewell”, his triad of friends told him soon. ”We will return back to Aman now – may you find your happiness again in Middle-Earth”, they said and so they parted.
For a while Telpenaro lived on his own in Lindon, before hearing that Galadriel and Celeborn had settled in Lothlórien and were now ruling there. Thus he departed, and he was taken there as a skillful warden and a long-lost kinsman of Finrod. While he was there, yet another symbol was added to the sword of his pendant.
