The ceremony brought tears of joy to the eyes of many in attendance, perhaps no one more than Princess Lothíriel.

Story

A week before the wedding Princess Lothíriel, daughter of Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth, met with Captain Cirnaith of the Súlrohir to review the route they would sail to Mithlond, the harbour near Minas Tirith, the site of the wedding. With Lothíriel were the sisters Eregiel and Calentauriel of Lothlórien who would be accompanying the princess on the sea voyage.

Captain Cirnaith laid the map on a table so that they may see the path the ship would take.

Over the previous weeks errand-riders brought messages from Minas Tirth to Dol Amroth:

In mid-March the Battle of Pelennor Fields was fought. The Men of Gondor and their allies from Rohan successfully defended the White City. but it came at great cost. Denethor II, Ruling Steward and Lord of Minas Tirith, perished in a great fire. Théoden, King of the Rohirrim, fell in battle on the Pelennor Fields. Many other valiant Men fell besides.

When Eregiel and Calentauriel entered the dining chamber they were told that they should be seated. A footman instructed that they should begin eating as soon as the food was brought, as Lothíriel had some affairs to attend to before she broke her fast.

'Good morning, ladies,' Lothíriel greeted her guests. 'Please let us sit and be comfortable.'

Eregiel and Calentauriel courtsied, then took their customary seats once the princess was seated.

'I was told of yesterday's incident,' Lothíriel said with obvious concern. 'I hope you were not injured.'

Calentaurie turned to Eregiel and asked, 'Nésa, were you injured?"

'No, nésa, I was not injured,' Eregiel replied.

'Éowyn!' Eregiel cried out, bolting upright from her sleep to a sitting position.

Awakened by her sister's cry, Calentauriel asked, 'What is it, nésa? You called out the name Éowyn in your sleep.'

'If my dream be true, Éowyn is dead.' Eregiel answered sadly.

'How tragic! Do you know how she died?' wondered Calentauriel.
