Lancogard is a robust, active, healthy hobbit just out of his tweens, with sandy brown hair, perky alert dark eyes and a cheerful disposition.  Unlike many hobbits his age, who sport bright colors and peasant finery, he is often in hunting garb of a single dark or natural hue.

When out 'bounding', "Lance" sports a sword and dagger on his belt, and a sturdy dependable bow and quiver.  He is so proud of his status as a Deputy-Shirriff that he will wear his feathered cap even while off-duty; but when beating the bounds, he will often wear his now-distinctive leather hat.

Background

Lancogard North-Took ("Call me Lance, everyone does") is a hobbit who hails from the rocky lands of the North-Farthing. As part of the clan of the North-Tooks of Long Cleeve, Lance is a very distant cousin ("fifth cousins, once removed") of the Tooks of Great Smials, being descended from Bandobras the Bullroarer.

Since his tweens, the Tookish wanderlust awakened within Lance's heart and, in defiance of his parents' calls for "hobbit-sense", he began striking out on his own, bow and dagger at hand, joining the Bounders and ranging throughout the lands north of Brockenborings and eventually throughout the North-Farthing, seeking adventures and looking for bold deeds to make his mark.

After a year of "bounding", his determination and devotion to his duties earned him the position of Deputy-Shirriff of the Northfarthing.  To this day, Lancogard North-Took rides the hills and vales of the North-Farthing, committed to his task as a Shirriff - but ever watchful for a time when someone might call for...
