Background
Glinthir, was born in Gondolin on the 480th year of the First Age. 30 years he lived in the great elf city in Beleriand, his beloved home, until it was betrayed by Maeglin, and destroyed by Morgoth and his dark forces on the 510th year FA.
He was a member of the House of the Golden Flower, led by the elf lord Glorfindel. He was the only son of a Noldorin smith and a Vanyarin maiden, poet and musician. Glinthir always loved poetry and music and also history and set up a study in his private hall, as soon as he could. He would spend many hours in his study and as a result, he learned a great deal about the history of the world, its secrets and how to decipher them. From his first day in the city barracks, he was drawn to swords. The delicacy and grace, in which they danced in the hands of the right wielder, charmed him. He mostly fought with two swords, because in his mind it was more like a dance, swirling and dealing deadly blows, unscathed, but used two handed swords as well. For 25 years he trained and he became very skilled with the sword, until his skills were needed on the grim day that the White City fell…
His parents were with the main force of his house in the Great Market, when they were ambushed and slain with the others. Glinthir, on the other hand, was on the city walls when the attack took place and together with a small force of his house, held their ground for a considerable amount of time, against terrible foes, prohibiting their entrance into their home. Suddenly the ground trembled and a large force of orcs led by balrogs, hit them from the side and killed most of them instantly. He was thrown down from the walls, inside the city, near the eastern part. Although he was injured, he quickly gathered his strength and rushed to the square of the king with a small force of his kin to regroup with his house in the Kings last stand. He fought bravely with his kin near Lord Glorfindel and Tuor. The ground trembled as Gothmog and his large force appeared. The Balrogs, charged the Kings force from both sides. Many died and Glinthir was severely injured in the crash. When Ecthelion and later King Turgon, perished, Glinthir was carried away by his kin and they escaped through the secret passage of Princess Idril. He hadn’t lost his senses from the moment he was brought down, despite his injuries. Carried away by his kin, his eyes, were full of tears as he saw his Lord Glorfindel falling of that cliff, his family, friends and King dead, his people being slain and his beloved home, Gondolin, burning and destroyed.
Glinthir’s grief was untolerable. His body eventually healed. But his spirit was in pain. He remained at the Havens of Sirion to fully heal and recover his strength. His grief and anger were overwhelming but he was still too weak to act. He later travelled to Lindon where he found lots of his friends and companions. Glinthir swore allegiance to the High King Gil – Galad and stayed in Harlindon, constantly training and gaining knowledge until being sent off with Elrond to the defence of Eregion. Their force was outnumbered and although they fought bravely the city was lost. Glinthir’s anger grew larger. What remained of the force retreated and on the year 1697 of the Second Age, Elrond found Rivendell. Glinthir was charmed, and after a long time felt that he had found a fitting refuge. When the dark forces of Sauron besieged Imladris in the war of the Elves and Sauron in 1699 all of Glinthir’s remaining friends and companions were unfortunately killed. Driven by grief and lust for vengeance the young elf, participated in the war and killed many foes. He returned to Imladris and participated in the battle of Gwathlo (1700 SA) were Sauron's forces were completely annihilated. Glinthir stayed in Rivendell, trained harder, researched, and helped his kin drive away a lot of orc warbands, near the Bruinen. He was there when the Last Alliance of Elves and men was established, when Gil Galad and Elendil led their forces to Imladris in preparation for the Battle of Dagorlad. Driven by his everlasting outlets of grief and vengeance, Glinthir, participated in the battle of Dagorlad, leading a force of his kin by appointment of High King Gil Galad to battle and exacted vengeance on his enemies. When the war was over, he returned to Imladris and he became one of the captains of the guard, in recognition of his service to his kin. He is still residing at Rivendell, and has pledged his sword to Lósengriol where he met many Noldo that have also fled from the fallen White City…
