Shorter compared to the average Eldar, Ferchon is still a formidable hunter with physical strength and dexterity honed by centuries of hunting and wandering. His face and voice are rough and unappealing, almost making him appear as one of the race of Men. His brownish hair is touched by hints of gold, his eyes ,deep grey and somber, are constantly alert. Ferchon enjoys simple dark green garments, but above all else, his hunting gear in the wilderness. |

Background

Ferchon was born in the mountains of Greenwood, some time during the mid years of the Second Age. His parents, Rusgon and Dulinneth, were Laiquendi from Ossiriand who followed Lord Oropher into the Vales of the Anduin, after the destruction of Beleriand. They desired to experience a more "rustic" and "natural" way of life as was the case after their awakening in Cuiviénen. After centuries of reflection, Ferchon came to the conclusion that only by following this way of life, the Silvan way, the elves may naturally enjoy Middle-Earth without the artificial blessings in Aman.
Ferchon spent his youth and early adulthood wandering Rhovanion, training with the woodland wardens and studying Silvan and Sindar lore. His parents were also renowned acoustic instrument crafters among the Laiquendi, and this mastery was passed to their son. Later in the Second Age king Oropher made him leader of a small Silvan warband, tasked with the hunting of dangerous wildlife within the realm, mostly spiders and wargs.
Even though the Second and Third age were marked by several catastrophes and developments, Ferchon was only concerned with the events within Greenwood. In his mind the troubles of the world were caused by the schemings of the Valar, and isolation was the only way to avoid them. This theory became crystal clear certainty after the Battle of Dagorlad: 2/3 of the woodland forces were slaughtered, including his father Rusgon and his king Oropher, as they had never fought outside the forest. All of this for the whims of Noldor and Numenorean lordlings. The Dark Lord was defeated yes, but not the ring, and its corruption was allowed to fester.
In the Third Age Rhovanion became a dangerous place and the Silvan became even more reclusive. Many battles were fought in this age, orc incursions from Gundabad and Moria, Esterlings and Wainriders to name a few, but Ferchon will share his memories of these events only with trusted friends. As the Shadow crept into Greenwood, Thranduil decided to move northwards and create and underground kingdom, similar to ancient Menegroth in Doriath.
Ferchon refused to move northwards, in his mind it would be shameful to leave his beautiful forested mountains for cowardly underground caves. King Thranduil accepted his decision, although he was relieved of any official duties. And so years went on, and Mirkwood became more and more dangerous until he was the only Silvan living outside Thranduil's haven. The Mountains became infested by spiders and Ferchon finally abbandoned his birth place.
Consumed by pride, he refused to seek permanent refuge among his Silvan kin. He resents Thranduil for abandoning most of Greenwood. At the same he resents the elves of Lorien, seeing them as weak willed individuals who leave Middle-earth at the first sign of danger (in Amroth's time) and who chose a Noldor foreigner to rule them (Galadriel), falling under high elven servitude. This resentment however never became hostility, all Silvan folk are like brothers and sisters to him, he just could not permanently settle in one place, choosing to wander between Sylvan kingdoms and the Vales of the Anduin.
