Word have arrived in Imladris that a friend to the warband was heading to Moria and was calling for aid to ride with him into the cave of Azanarukar from which a vile stench was spreading forth. One of the Lady Galadriel’s people an Elf named Magor had ventured there but had not returned and she was concerned for what had happened to him. Thus the more senior of the warband, Elisbeth, Khalis, Tagos and Tzel made their way on their fastest steeds to Moria and down into its dark depths.

North and east with the elf beside me. Fate and fortune rise about me like the dust on the road. Here I ride, back into the north, the occasional wind chill as it blows from the further northlands, off the snows. Across the lands once enlivened by long forgotton Fornost. Even as I ride here, my linnet will be preparing her flock for its journey to scrabble about the ruins, inspire her to sing a new tale of Arvedui.

   I settled into camp life well enough. I mostly stayed close to Escgel, not much trusting in the other men there, and we more often than not made our beds at a little distance away from the others. It suited me well enough in other respects, of course, for I ate far better than I had in a long time and we were almost constantly on the move - fearful of being found and captured as well as seeking richer pickings in other parts of the country - which fitted my compulsion to run rather nicely.

A delightful day. Yes. I rode with the elf maid obedient beside me, and my few men about me. North from the crowded, fetid encampment, out into the hills around the northmens' camp, Esteldin.

   I was surprised to find myself still in that little camp the next morning. The sun had woken me and it became clear in very short order that I had stayed for far longer than I had intended. It also became apparant that Escgel had been awake for some time for he was bent over the fire, this time stirring something in a pot hanging above the flames via the same spit he had used for the meat the night before. He turned around when he heard the rustle of the bedroll and beamed a warm smile at me.

   "Ah, good morning there! I trust you had a good nights sleep."

   In my seventh year everything changed yet again. I had managed to work my way up to the Entwood by that time and had ventured only a little way in, using the trees and the undergrowth for what little cover they could provide in the autumn rains.
