Lîr Nimlith - Nimlith's Song

((NOTE: My Sindarin is quite bad. Please send me a PM if you think you have a better translation for something or other!))

Lîr Nimlith

Lhesto lîr nin,
Lîr o elleth tauronnen,
O taur melen edhellen.

Onnen na ross ethuilen,
Faer taurui echuinen.
Gelaidh enni aunir ist:

Linna lelwin aunir ist,
Tiri deren aunir ist.
Lasta tathar aun ist.

Lhas be innen dannar
vi Eryn Lhasgalen,
eryn o meneglhas.

Ol be innen pae,
ol ned ol innen haran.
Meneginnen revian be glawar.

Dan dúath dinen dannant,
duath bo dû-tawar.
Ah naur ah osp dúath tol.

Iallen enith mellyn nin
iallen brethil, lalven, tathar.
Dan lithath, nim lith.

Lhesto lîr rûth,
rûth ar naeth edhellen!
Auth tolther di eryn.

Aman dúath auth toltha.
Ned innen naeth galen,
Innen di dúath a auth.

Dan gil be estel narthen -
Di dúath estel heben.
Min dúath a calad darthar.

Lîr ú-treniel:
Di dúath linnar,
La-istar lû aur...
Di dúath linnar, darthar amrûn.

Nimlith's Song

Listen to my song,
the song of a forestborn Elf-maiden,
Of the forest beloved by the Elves.

Born to the spring rains,
I awoke to the forest's spirits.
And the trees gave me knowledge:

The elm-trees taught me to sing,
the oaks taught me to watch,
The willow taught me to listen.

The years fall like leaves
in the forest of Greenwood,
the forest of thousand leaves.

Ten years is like a dream,
a dream within a dream a hundred years.
A thousand years passed like shining lights.

But shadows silently fell,
Shadows on the nightly wood.
In fire and smoke shadows fell.

I called my friends' names,
Birch, and elm, and willow I called.
But they were all ash, white ash.

Listen to the song of wrath,
the wrath and grief of the Elves!
Under the trees we brought the war.

To the world the shadow brought war.
In years our grief grew,
Years under shadow and war.

But as a star, hope was kindled -
Under the shadow hope was kept.
Between the shadow and light we remain.

This song is not over:
We sing under the shadow,
knowing not the time of morning...
In the shadow we sing, waiting for the sunrise.
