Lindeman still felt half asleep as he struggled to his feet
and reached for the dagger. The darkness around him seemed to move
and he recognised the same elf standing not twenty feet from him.
"Leave it!" cried the strange elf. "Lindeman, you will
keep that blade to yourself"
"I do not want your bad tidings!"
"I did not bring you here, Lindeman. You brought yourself. You came
because you knew your fellowship would find refuge in Imladris."
"That is not true! We are on a quest!"
"You deal with powers you do not understand. You chase shadows
but the shadow has seen you." The elf continued, and began to walk
closer for the first time. "This deep valley has endured under
protection. No evil can enter this place, but you cannot stay long.
You cannot stay long, for it has seen you."
"It..." Lindeman repeated, and the terror of the unnamed thing
in the forest drew closer.

At night, Lindeman exchanged a few last words with Ellahan
before falling to restless sleep in a Thorenhad tent.
...
In his drunken bravado, the Farmer addressed Enirol in a corner
of the Prancing Pony. "You, do you know what? You were a fool to
tell Lindeman that the Mayor is corrupt."
Beer was spilling from his two beer mugs, but the Farmer did not notice.
"The captain would never believe that. He believes in order, and that
is what the Mayor stands for. Without order, there are no captains.
Lindeman wants order for our troops. Order for us, and chaos in the ranks
of the enemy!"
At the table, the Patron looked up to see what was taking his friend so long.
The Farmer continued: "Look what you have done to this peaceful town?
This is no place for the likes of you!"
He did not get any further before the horrified Patron dragged him away.

There was something curious about Lindeman's wounds.
"You are lucky to find me" said the Healer. "With all the recent violence
in the surrounding area, Rivendell is short of healers."
"I would feel luckier if you were to join our quest" said Lindeman and
took his herbs and liquid.

Looking back, Lindeman thought Elladan had known little of what was to follow.
What about Lord Elrond at this time? Did he have a good understanding of
what might await the fellowship if they were to comply with his request?
