They arrived just after dawn. Mother and daughter of the Mark, both looking for a new start.
"Do you think some of the others we knew shall be mere, Mama?" Bronaa had asked, thinking fondly of several folk.
"Perhaps dear. Northgyth said at least that Averel Thane may visit. He was ever a friend in need."
The girl chuckled. "Then I had best brush up on my singing and story telling."
Hildfrith felt a rush of something like joy. It has been so long since Bronaa had laughed.
