Chronicle Summary
Part diary, part sales record, and part self-aggrandising memoir—all scribbled in a heavy, well-travelled tome that smells faintly of pipeweed. Supposedly a business ledger, it serves more as a colourful chronicle of Vratni’s wheeling, dealing, grifting, and occasionally heartfelt attempts at 'honest' trade.
Chronicle Content
Typical Content Found Within:
- Daily (or every other day) entries describing his exploits, from petty market scams to elaborate merchant schemes (and sometimes, accidental acts of kindness).
- Colourful accounts of characters he encounters; rivals, allies, customers, and fellow peddlers, each recorded with a mix of admiration, mockery, or grudging respect.
- Sharp internal commentary on the people of Bree, the state of trade, and Vratni’s personal grudges, aspirations, and self-justifications. Grandiose titles Vratni bestows upon himself (e.g. Architect of Access, Chancellor of Charisma, Apprentice of Earnin’).
- Sales ideas and future schemes, including half-baked plans, “trusted seller” branding initiatives, and one ill-fated merchant school.
- Moments of unexpected depth, particularly with his young assistant Ludon, where reflections on trust, pride, and what it means to “make it” as a merchant are scribbled in quieter tones.
