19. The Battle: Part 1

The company rode down the road South out of Thorin's Hall. Egfor scanned the mountain peaks all around them nervously, watching. He really wished he could linger and actually enjoy the scenery and being to a new place, but he could not. Perhaps, if they survived, he might enjoy the trip back.

Egfor halted, looking up a narrow, winding pathway up the side of a mountain that was barely visible. He grunted unintelligibly and turned Elf to start up that pathway. He looked back briefly at the company of elves, dwarves... and Dem... who followed him. What a strange company. He lifted his arm and pushed a snow laden branch out of his way. He snickered a little as he let the branch go, it whipped back and caught Dem unawares. He chuckles at the swearing and sputtering behind him.

Egfor ran a hand over his beard, dislodging ice and frost that was residing there, "Normally, I'd enjoy this trip." The company makes their way up to a little watch post that seemed to have been abandoned years ago. The company dismounts and explores the area, Rhavi peeking in the windows, declaring the building empty. Thorbeck and Egfor set up the ballista. Egfor loads up the first bolt and waits.

Instinctively, he grabs another bolt and slides it into his belt, just in case. They set up with their back to the watch post and send their poor mounts off, to avoid becoming a snack. Egfor made a muttered, off-handed comment about his need for brown pants today, causing Rhavi and a few others to laugh.

Arrygg yells in a booming voice, standing out away from the group. "Your mate brought you food. Come get me." Egfor jerks his head upwards towards the lift, catching a glint of... something up on a mountain peak. Thrigil bellows Your mate brough you two dwarves you going to come get us you coward beast?"

Wgfor scowls, "Next person to call me it's mate gets a bolt up the backside, understood?" He turns the ballista towards where he saw the glint, murmuring, "The underside is soft, so they say..." Egfor turns about the colour of the snow as the beast reveals itself, "Oh, that's uh... bigger than I thought." Thorbeck watches as he catches glimpses of the wings. "By Durins beard.."

The company proceeds to hurl insults at the thing, trying to tempt it down within range. The drake descends teh mountain, landing in front of the company. Egfor quivers in fear. Never had he dreamed of facing what he thought was a legend....
