The Little Red Book: Annúminas #1

It has only been three days since our departure from Bree and already I am somewhat regretting my decision to come. Well, that may be a bit hyperbolic. I say this not because I am afraid or anything of the like. No, I am finding myself mistrusting or our fearless leader into the North. Sindalea keeps many secrets, yet seems to delight in prying them from others any chance she gets. Perhaps, though, the same can be said of myself. Afterall, the night before we left, I had practically interrogated the woman about herself and her past. That is not what bothers me the most though.

I see the way Lefwin looks at her. I see how the spark of grim amusement from her whenever he flirts with her, and it is all too familiar. I tried to advise him on the subject, but I am not too certain that he has heeded it. Infatuation can do strange things to younger minds, even those who have seen more than they ever should have had to. I should know. Braegnir has never been able to walk the same after what happened, nor have his eyes had the warmth they once had. Love has never been kind to him. Whether it be the love of a girl or the love of our unimpressed father. I love my brother, but there are moments when his words frighten me. I worry that Lefwin too will lose his light. That the darkness will close in completely until there is only one thing; surviving by any means necessary.

Still, despite all of that, I find myself enjoying the journey. The untamed forest that we find ourselves in now holds a certain type of peace for me. A stillness. I hope I can return here once this mission of Sin's in complete. I am mostly certain that Catalinna is warming up to me, but this could also simply be a well-masked tolerance as she is still quite cagey. I am detecting a pattern among my fellow traveling companions. Then again, "birds of a feather flock together."
