Everything began last night when Radawen came to my room late at night. She had received an alarming letter from Aranuir and tried to flee Imloth Melui, but was intercepted by two killers who chased her down to my room. I had to blow my cover to her. I sedated Radawen and left the guesthouse to dispatch the killers. One was arrested by the town guard, the other I disarmed and interrogated. I got some answers but I underestimated my opponent. I woke up this morning under a bridge next to Pengtaurion’s corpse. I took care of the body. It will never be found.
The killers are after a diary Romenstar was writing. Apparently the journal contains a secret that is worth killing for to some parties. I was using Radawen to get the book. Somebody attacked Romenstar this morning in the Hall of the Gentle Hand as he was having one of his healing sessions. His body is missing, but a lot of eye-witnesses claim that he was attacked by a man in a dark cloak who stabbed him to death and caused panic in the Hall.
After I had disposed of Pengtaurion’s body and returned to the guesthouse I found that Radawen had already left. I haven’t been able to locate her, but it seems likely she has left Imloth Melui. I can’t stay in the guesthouse, because there are more killers at large and they will come looking for me there. But I will stay put in Imloth Melui for now. There are still things I need to do here.
I don’t know what has happened to Romenstar’s diary. Did the man who stabbed him get it? Where is Romenstar’s body? Did he survive the attack? If so, did he take the diary with him? I don’t have answers, only questions. There are too many factors involved and yet they all must be connected to each other in some way. And I have heard that Saruman the White has arrived in Imloth Melui.
There is one more thing I need to do here, but I need your help with it. There is something I have kept from you in my earlier reports. I wanted to sit on it until all the players had shown their cards. Sauron has an agent in Imloth Melui as well. Demrîng. You might remember him from Bree-land last year. He showed up in my room one night and gave me a document. An encrypted message that seemed to implicate that Romenstar was merely some kind of an elaborate plot by the Rangers of Ithilien, designed to foil the negotiations between Denethor and Sauron’s emissaries in Minas Tirith. Demrîng was quite adamant that I deliver the document to you as soon as possible, which is exactly why I chose not to. I will attach the scroll with this report, but bear in mind that it might be nothing but a forgery cooked up by Demrîng in order to promote Sauron’s plots, whatever they may be.
