Furrowburrow

Home of the Furrowfolk

Furrowburrow is a grand burrow that stretches well across the south corner of Downfurrows. It is long and thin and forms an L shape when viewed from a map. As the name suggests it houses the Furrow hobbits. A family of dyemakers who recently moved over to Downfurrows after receiving one too many declinations to expand their original farm in Tookland.

Now without further ado. Let us take a tour through the Furrowburrow!

The Workshop

1 Myrtle Court

The WorkshopThe first building you’ll see when approaching the Furrowburrow, the Workshop is housed and maintained by “grumps” Longoric. A forge and large anvil are positioned in the yard. Also the property guard Marigold is often seen outside the workshop, ensuring no troublemakers make a mess out of the workshop. The interior of the workshop is cluttered with crafting materials, storage crates, a worktable used for crafting, and some trophies from Longoric’s time as a bounder.

The Scriptorium

2 Myrtle Court

The ScriptoriumA retreat from the busyness of life, the Scriptorium is home to Grufforic and many thesauri! Stocked with notebooks, journals, jars of ink and more feathers than a scribe could ever need, it is here that Grufforic composes and creates his poems.

The Bed & Breakfast

3 Myrtle Court

The Bed & BreakfastThis part of the burrow is a lovely spot for guests to rest their weary feet and spend the night.

Miss Roslily maintains this part of the burrow and ensures the comfort of her guests. In the morning she also prepares a lovely omelet with bacon and peas before sending her guests on their way.

You can often see waggons belonging to visiting travelers parked outside. The interior is decorated with lots of flowers and has enough beds for two visitors. It also stores many different musical instruments which Ms Roslily uses to entertain her guests.

The Farm & Furrowhall

4 Myrtle Court

The Hall and FarmPerhaps the greatest focal point of Furrowburrow is the large farm stationed on a small hill at the center of the burrow. It is here that most of the work takes place. Many flowers and plants used to create pigment for dyes and ink are kept here. Additionally, depending on the season, you might find a large mushroom tent positioned on the east side of the field. The mushrooms provide a nice source of income when the weather won’t yet support the growth of flowers, plants and herbs used to make dyes.

The interior of Furrowhall is long and wide and it’s rooms are many. Upon entering you’ll find the hallway, which holds many hats and coats. Heading east you’ll see the grand hall, which is the largest room at the center of the burrow. This room contains many chairs, sofas and even a stage! To the west you’ll find the kitchen, complete with it’s own pantry. It is stuffed with all sorts of foods and drinks.

To the east of the grand hall you’ll find a narrow hallway. This hallway leads to the library, which contains many books and maps, in the east and the dyer’s workshop to the north east.

To the north east you'll find a hallway leading down. This leads to the dye-making workplace equipped with all the tools required for making dyes and paint. A crucible, a mortar and pestle, an alembic and many flasks and jars of pigment.

Throughout the burrow you’ll find many decorative flowers. The flowers are iconic to the Furrowfolk as they symbolize the bright vibrant colours they aim to create in their dyes!

The Pen

5 Myrtle Court

Roar!On the most eastern side of Furrowburrow lies a small animal enclosure. Here all the hay and feed is stored for winter. You might see an alabaster furred goat graze here, as well as a pony or two.The interior houses Madelily, who decorated her home with many hides, pelts and fishing trophies.

I hope you enjoyed this trip through the Furrowburrow of Downfurrows.
