Known as Ramaite Hosse in Quenya, Roval Nothrim in Sndarin, and Winged Kindred in Westron.The Winged Kindred was a small battalion trained especially for grueling and deadly missions the army could not handle. They were special ops, brutal scouts, and loyal soldiers.

  • Calaindo, leader.
  • Culowe.
  • Alasornaion, brother of Nuruwe.
  • Nuruwe, brother of Alasornaion.
  • Alasiel.
  • Telpado.
  • Mistarennye.

 

Mission One:

Springtime.

The Year 84.

First Age.

Mission Assigned By: Canyador.

Mission Failed.

Officer Canyador ordered an unauthorized mission to sneak into Angband and map it out. The mission was failure, with two lives lost in a near escape.

 

  • Calaindo escaped unharmed.
  • Culowe went MIA, presumed dead.
  • Alasornaion suffered a twisted ankle during escape.
  • Nuruwe died, crushed by a Balrog.
  • Alasiel was severally burned due to an encounter with a balrog.
  • Telpado was shot in the back by an orc, but survived and eventually recovered.
  • Mistarennye escaped unharmed.

 

  • In the wake of this defeat, Maegmirdor and Celemorlos took the places of the two dead members.
  • The group was given temporary leave to recover from the ordeal. Alasornaion, Alasiel, Telpado, and Mistarennye were all admitted to therapy. Alasornaion alone refused to attend sessions.
  • The group resumed training and deportation in two years.

 

Mission Two:

Winter.

The Year 282.

First Age.

Mission Assigned by: Elmordil.

Mission Successful.

Rumors of Increased Orc activity on one of the lesser guarded outposts of Angband are reported. The Winged Kindred is sent to scout and investigate. The rumors are proven true, and a battalion of Noldor is sent to shut it down. Telpado and Celemorlos were ordered by Calaindo to take a closer look from the rest and fell under orc fire. Celemorlos died rom his wounds.

  • Calaindo suffered a sprained ankle.
  • Alasornaion was unharmed.
  • Alasiel was unharmed.
  • Telpado suffered an arrow in the arm, was admitted to medical care.
  • Mistarennye was unharmed.
  • Maegmirdor was shot in the knee and back. He required time off duty to fully recover.
  • Celemorlos died from injuries suffered from arrow fire.

 

  • Celemorlos was replaced by Ithilnauriel.

 

Mission Three:

Summer.

The Year 347.

First Age.

Mission Assigned by Elmordil.

Mission Successful.

Recent disagreements in trade between the elves of Nargothrond and Hithlum spark a conflict. When carts of necessary goods fail to reach the Noldor, the Sindar elves accuse the Noldor of trickery. Rumors spread and negotiations sour. Eager to settle the dispute before any war starts, the Winged Kindred is sent on a escort mission of the next goods. Orc raiders are proven responsible for the loss of the goods. The Kindred acted solo to destroy the camp of feral orcs. Ithilnauriel is killed and most other injured, but the mission is ultimately successful. The head of the orc leader was shown to the Hithlum elves to satisfy the disagreements and silence the rumors. Peaceful trade resumed.

 

  • Calaindo suffered several cuts and severe loss of blood. He eventually recovered.
  • Alasornaion sprained his wrist and was more severely shot by three arrows. He barely survived.
  • Alasiel was shot by an arrow and cut across the leg, carrying a limp until she recovered.
  • Telpado was severely wounded in his arm. It was eventually amputated.
  • Mistarennye escaped with a bruised side and twisted ankles.
  • Maegmirdor was shot on the arm.
  • Ithilnauriel was injured and killed by severe wounds from orc blades.

 

  • The group was given time off training and duties to heal and recuperate.
  • Galnehtar replaced Ithilnauriel.

 

Mission Four: Participation in Dagor Bragollach, Battle of the Sudden Flame.

No casualties.

Alasornaion and Mistarennye sustained wounds.

It was discovered that Culowe, previously MIA, was captured and twisted into an orc. He was slain by Mistarennye.

Alasornaion went MIA.

 

Mission Five: Recover the Lost.

Year long.

The Year 455.

First Age.

Mission Assigned by King Fingolfin.

Mission Partly Successful.

After the Battle of the Sudden Flame, the Winged Kindred was sent out to recover those who went MIA and account for the dead in danger zones. No casualties. Galnehtar, Maegmirdor, and Calaindo sustained wounds. Alasornaion was one of the MIA soldiers found.

 

Mission Six: Scouting Duties in the Skirmishes Against Orcs.

Years Long.

The Years 462-469.

First Age.

Mission Assigned by Elmordil.

Mission Successful.

The Winged Kindred was assigned to the armies of elves fighting the orcs in Hithlum and all of Beleriand. Their duties were of various scouting and high danger missions. These missions were not recorded in this book, but in the army's book of those battles.

Extra members were assigned to the Winged Kindred; Nirdoriel, Estellas, Mormirlos, Canyadir, Carchmegil, Edheldu, and Nimpiel. Only Estellas and Edheldu survived. Only Estellas moved on to permanently join the Winged Kindred.

 

Mission Seven: Participation in Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Battle of Unnumbered Tears.

Year Long.

The Year 472.

First Age.

Mission Assigned by The Union of Maedhros.

Mission Failed.

The Winged Kindred had scouting duties in the Battle of Unnumbered Tears.

 

  • Calaindo died in battle by the hands of a troll.
  • Alasornaion escaped unwounded.
  • Alasiel was wounded by an arrow to the stomach.
  • Telpado was severely wounded by orc spears.
  • Mistarennye was wounded in the arm but resumed duty after a single visit to medics.
  • Maegmirdor was severely wounded by a troll.
  • Galnehtar was shot in the back twice by survived.
  • Estellas died in battle from an arrow to the heart.

 

  • Maegmirdor temporarily took command of the battalion a year's time.
  • Estenomedol was the only soldier who volunteered to take the place of the dead units.

 

Mission Eight: Scouting the Fate of Nargothrond.

Fall.

The Year 495.

First Age.

Mission Assigned by Elmordil.

Mission Failed.

The Winged Kindred was sent to scout the lands surrounding Nargothrond when communication stopped between it and the rest of the Eldar's kingdoms. However, they were forced to return unsuccessful when heavy orc activity prevented the battalion from safe passage. They walked into an ambush and suffered a casualty.

 

  • Maegmirdor was severely cut in the lower left leg.
  • Alasornaion escaped with a cut in the arm.
  • Alasiel was cut on the head, shot in the upper leg, and suffered great blood loss.
  • Telpado was slain.
  • Mistarennye was cut across the stomach and suffered blood loss.
  • Galnehtar's ribs were crushed. He was carried back to safety. He was unable to recover and was crippled for the rest of his life, requiring him to stop his service to the Winged Kindred and army.
  • Estenomedol suffered deep wounds across the body but survived.

 

  • Maegmirdor stepped down from command.
  • Mistarennye assumed leadership.
  • Galnehtar was removed from his position with honor for his wounds.

 

Mission Nine: Scout and Save.

Years long.

500-512.

First Age.

Mission Assigned by Elmordil.

Mission Successes Mixed.

The Winged Kindred was sent to the lesser populated areas of all Free Peoples to evacuate towns and defend refugees against the wrath of Morgoth's armies. Miraculously, no casualties were suffered. 

 

  • During this time, Orotasarin joined the depopulated Winged Kindred.
  • Alasornaion was discovered to be a traitor to the Free Peoples, a spy for Morgoth since the Battle of the Sudden Flame. He almost escaped to reveal Sirion's location to Morgoth before Alasiel found him out and turned him in. However, before court martial and execution, he escaped into Rhovanian.

 

Mission Ten: Participation in the War of Wrath.

Years Long.

545-590.

First Age.

Mission Assigned by King Gil-Galad.

Mission Successes Mixed.

The Winged Kindred had scouting duties in the War of Wrath.

 

The Winged Kindred was disbanded in the Year 590 of the First Age. The fates of the remaining members were as follows:

 

  • Mistrennye stayed in Lindon, stepping down from military service.
  • Alasornion was an enemy of the Free Peoples, an escaped refuge of war.
  • Alasiel stayed in Lindon, stepping down from military service.
  • Galnehtar suffered a wound so great he was forced from military service. He departed to Valinor after the Noldor were pardoned.
  • Estenomedol stayed in Lindon, stepping down from military service.
  • Maegmirdor stayed in Lindon, stepping down from military service.
  • Orotasarin remained in the military, defending Lindon.
