I spoke with the Watcher within the walls of the Prancing Pony Inn today... In a great deal more detail regarding the stone. He had many questions and more or less was skeptical. I answered him honestly, but was distant nonetheless. Our conversation traveled in circles several times, until he eventually agreed to take the stone, though he claimed he would not have the skill to make the journey. I recommended he take another with him, preferably an outsider who would not spread gossip. He did request that I join him, but I am afraid he must prove himself without my aid... The stone does not lie, for it has chosen him.
Unfortunately there was another individual listening in nearby, named Kaiell according to the Watchman. I questioned him at a later time, though he claimed he heard little (other than mention of the stone and the Barrow-Downs, and how I requested the Watcher to carry it) and seemed surprised that I knew he was eavesdropping in the first place. I requested his silence for the time being. Funny, I know this eavesdropper's name, but not the name of the Watcher... Perhaps I should ask him what his name is, maybe then he will feel less threatened by my presence.
It is in the best interest of everyone that few hear of this task before it is completed. The stone must be taken to the spire, only then may it offer greater protection to the land. A shadow looms over this realm, though it marches to the beat of its own drum. Regardless of this, if that shadow ever turned to the people of Bree-Land then the stone would suppress that shadow. In the event of the ultimate evil crawling from the far North and South, the stone may provide resistance, but may otherwise be overwhelmed; it simply is not equipped for a force of that caliber.
