It had taken him three years to earn how to be quiet and manage to scout, not that decently, since he never was one to stay out of sight and hide and watch, but he decided he had to, not he had to. Fiontann stood on a small hill among some trees in the middle of an uknown land, one that he has only seen in maps and has heard of by an old friend, Pren. He spent the last three years doing what he always did, fight, help and drink and read, but now he had added something else, learning to be quiet and stay out of sight, and here he was.
He stood among the trees with his hood on to cover the white of his face, the brown colour of his hood and cloak keeping him out of sight in the darkness. The hill was close to where the company had camped, but further South, he went there alone, to scout as he said. He moved quietly along the road but away from it, in sight and hearing distance and walked on. He stopped in that spot to watch the area ahead, it had some scattered trees left and right of the road and onwards the fields of the Windfells spread.
On the West he saw fires, fires from a Wildmen settlement or camp, ahead of him he saw nothing, so he shifted his gaze to the fires, thinking that he had to get closer, but he knew it'd be wiser to send someone who was good at remaining quiet and could observe more that him. He has to know about the natives of this place, the clans and their relations. From what him and Phaewyn saw in that farm the clans didn't get along well with each other, as one clan had drawn their sign on the sign of another clan and they obviously fought.
The company has to build a bond with one or two clans to ensure safe passage to the South but what is the right choice? How many clans are there? Where do their loyalties lie? From Pren, Fion knows that the are enemies of the Rohirrim and Gaeded is from Rohan, she hates them and they will hate her and the company as a consequence. If they build bonds they must learn to trust each other, he can't have the girl alone in the wilds while the rest find comfort in a village, if they do.
He made sure that his greatsword was strapped tightly on his back in its scabbard and walked down from the hill, heading South, alwas in the shadows, walking carefully, he has to find out more...
