Word reached me today that Oaksford and his band of companions have passed Lake Evendim unscathed.
I'm surprised their passing came to be without troubles for all the wicked intentions of these would-be lawmen. I do not know whether senses finally reached them or if my allies were able to dissuade them from any action before it was too late. It does not matter to me now, what I know is that peace has been maintained.
In hindsight, it seems strange what effort I have placed in ensuring the safety of these adventurers, much as my counter-parts have in scheming for their misfortune. For as long as I recall my life has been to wander, stalking and waylaying all the wicked things the simple and good folks of the North do not even realize intend to make prey of them. I've grown to accept that there are things I cannot do, lives that I cannot save.
I cannot fault myself for all those who suffer at the hands of the enemy in my absence, but what then when it is my own kinsmen turning on those we are both sworn to protect? This I could never ignore, no matter the cost. Should innocent blood be spilt by fellow Dúnedain the red is on my hands, too. It is upon all of us.
These free folk and my friends that accompany and guard them may now proceed unmolested. For good or ill, they continue on their journey to lands more wild and unforgiving. I will pray for their safe return.
I feel liberated to set my attentions fully where they belong. There is much to do.
