Giara had come upon a camp of merchants the previous night. While there she had overheard one of the littl folk talking about a bear on a rampage. No one had the courage to enter the forest with it on the prowl.
She had went up to the hobbit and asked him about this animal. He told her what little he knew and offered to take her where he had seen the large bear. Giara agreed, she couldn't stand the though of the animal in such a state and it offered a distraction from her quest the precious days.
As they came upon the spot, a deer came bounding out of the trees terified. Giara was able to calm the buck with the speech of animals. She also found out where the bear was. For instance coming right at them.
She became her other form and as the mad bear came right at her she couldn't help but agree with the hobbit, this bear was bigger than her. After coming face to face with this angry beast she knew she couldn't hurt it. It took some time but she was finally able to talk the bear back to it's senses.
The hobbit talked her ear off all the way back to the camp. He somehow knew of Beorn and thus understood that she was of his line. This surprised her but his manner was a bit irritating. She woulnd't wait to get back to her search.
