Bagginses
The Bagginses are considered to one of the most respectable family in the Shire, particularly in the Westfarthing, in modern times. Although having possessed the qualities of wealth and respectability, the Baggins name has been somewhat tarnished in recent years as a result of the two disappearances of Mr. Bilbo Baggins (1290-?), once in 1341 and again in 1401. The whereabouts of Bilbo has been a much debated topic for almost two decades now. The author witnessed, with his very own eyes, Mr. Baggins vanishing into thin air. The family’s reputation has never truly recovered.
The Bagginses are primarily associated with the village of Hobbiton in the Westfarthing. Bag End, found on Bagshot Row upon The Hill, is considered the family seat. Excavated by Bungo Baggins (1245-1326) in the 1280s, this smial is undoubtedly one of the greatest masterpieces of the century. The Sackville-Bagginses, a branch of the great Baggins family founded by Otho Sackville-Baggins (1310-1412), has raised questions as to the rightful master of Bag End.
Although the headship of the family is based in Hobbiton, the Baggins name can be found throughout all four Farthings.
