Adventures of Chaney Oakleaf Book2 Part10

Sorrowful Goodbyes…

This was it, Chaney had thought, the day of reckoning. The day that the ‘Dawners’, those whom were going that is, were leaving for the journey east to the Misty Mountains. Chaney had made sure she were up and ready, and waiting to say her final goodbyes to Fiontann.

The previous evening had been one to remember. Although she had said she were keeping herself until marriage, and although nothing did occur, it were a special moment for her to lay naked with the man she loved. She knew very well that he may never return from this mysterious journey that he and the others had chosen to undertake.

She spent what precious little time there was left, quickly chatting, and then holding, and finally kissing Fiontann, before he gathered his company together for their final preparations prior to leaving.

Many had turned up to take part in this mission with Fiontann. Some she had recognisedRalyn whom was leaving Catilyn and her baby daughter behind. There was LeorthirOstergo whom was stood far from the rest. The rambling old man was too immersed in literature to take any notice whatsoever.

Taala had tried to make Chaney feel a little better by attempting to lighten her mood, although it did nothing to stop the way she was feeling. She knew her man was leaving for many days, and whom may never return.

Brammy was also going with them. He had smirked at Chaney, and even asked her for a leaving kiss. Chaney had merely glared at him and told him to back right off. She had eyes for one man only and he was the leader of this company.

There were one or two also whom Chaney did not recognise, or indeed did not trust. Those whom she threw suspicious eyes toward were the two Grey men. One she had seen on a number of occasions now. The other she had seen only once, albeit briefly the night she had confessed her love for Fiontann.

She did not trust these men, they looked dark, almost grim in appearance. Chaney did, however, manage word to the Grey man whom she knew. He had taken it upon himself to walk to her and offer words of comfort. Chaney in her usual manner would remain stern and silent at best. She managed to ask this man to keep an eye on Fiontann, to make sure he were safe, and above all else to ensure his safe return.

At length the party would mount up complete with all their provisions, and make their way down toward the gateway of the Hall and out into the homesteads of Towerglan. Chaney would stand and merely keep her now watery eyes fixed upon Fiontann whom was at the head of the party. She felt herself whisper the words “I love you “. It was of no use though, for Fiontann would never have heard these.

Once she knew the company had passed out of sight she headed straight to Bertnar, mounted him, and hooded up. As she passed Catilyn she uttered the words " Its been three years, time to lay a ghost to rest, its you and I Jagger". She started to head off on her beloved friend.

Catilyn, however, had other ideas. Unbeknownst to Chaney, Fiontann had asked Catilyn to keep an eye on her, to ensure her safety whilst he wasn’t around. Thus Catilyn had asked where Chaney were going.

Eventually Chaney would relent in her idea and would retreat to the Dawn Hall with Catilyn, and join Basaran there.

The Dawnhall stood silent, like a ghostly house void of its members. It would remain this way for some time……………………………….
