Adventures of Chaney Oakleaf Book1 Part2

Journey to the Dawn Hall

The journey from Bree was but a short trip slightly south and east. Chaney did not truthfully know where Fiontann was taking her, although she had already begun to guess a few options.

Was he taking her to her doom? Perhaps into the Southern Chetwood where he could do what he wanted with her? No one would save her there, the woodland was empty save for the wildlife that lived there and the ruins which were home only to a group of outlawed brigands. They were no better than Jagger Jack’s lot. They would certainly not help her, probably even take Fiontann with her, two heads are better than one as they say, and to them that would mean dead and stripped of all possessions.

Maybe he was going to take her into the Midgewater Marshes? Teach her a lesson for being such a coldhearted, disrespectful urchin of a woman that she had been toward him since their first meeting.

No it would not be one of these outcomes for young Chaney. They turned from the road at length and entered from the wilds into a settlement of a few houses, some small, some a little larger, and then one which stood out from the rest. One which stood all grand like, raised slightly higher than those around it. A path ran up from the road and there was the largest house that she had seen since entering the settlement.

There were one or two men, whom to Chaney, were almost guarding the establishment. As it turned out they were indeed the guards complete with large dogs. This as it turned out was the home of Fiontann’s company. The home of the Bloody Dawn.

Fiontann pulled Hedinn to a halt at the nearby stables to the side of the house. He jumped down from him and offered his hand to Chaney, whom in turn took it and swiftly and athletically hopped down from the great horse. Fiontann left him in the capable hands of the stable boy and turned to Chaney and beckoned her to follow him.

The two of them walked around to the front of the house, Chaney all the while looking in amazement at the size of it all. The house, the stables, the grounds.

At length they reached the great front doors where Fiontann opened them into the first hall and politely offered for Chaney to enter. This then was the Dawn Hall of The Bloody Dawn.
