The Kindness Of Yule

It was her birthday today but there was no  party or cake or great celebration. Over the years yule had become accustomed about hiding her special day. She was named after the day she was born but that day was also a day filled with sadness because as she was coming to this world, her mother Ellenor was dying, giving tiny Yule the greatest gift of all, her love and her life. Winter  was Yule's favorite time of the year, she did not mind cold or the snow, other things were indeed much more troublesome as far as she was concerned. Yule had learned over  the years to hide her feelings and emotions from others, sometime ever from herself, but what she could see happening in the eyes of Amorey was causing her some concern - one old Elven proverb reads :

'Those who brings joy, love and kindness into the life of others, cannot keep those for themselves '

Yule knew this to be true, but she also knew it is important to be kind especially to unkind people, because  they are those who need  kindness the most...but she did not like to see Amorey sad. Of course  her cousin had learned to also keep her real feelings hidden away,  to all those meeting  her Amorey seemed mostly a cheery and jolly hobbit like many others but Yule knew how to read her cousin's heart. In one of her last letters Amorey has spoken about her true feelings...and about her hope and dreams for the future...about the long journey she was hoping to make, about the Shire Rose pendant, about her friends, and kindness she wrote :

'...and so you see my dear  Yule, I believe that kindness is tenderness. Kindness is love, but perhaps greater than love. Kindness is good will, kindness is be brave enough to  say to someone we love so much 'I want you to be happy...even if we know those words will break our heart. '

Yule had given up trying to understand why people do what they do sometime, there are more important things to do, like sitting quietly on a hill at sunset, counting stars, admiring the pale beauty of the moon, bringing a new baby hobbit into this world, looking after the most precious mathom and above all ...and most of all love, because Yule knew that love is the key and the answer is love. Yule had given up trying to understand why some hobbits just come into one's life to walk off it without a word or an explanation sometime - The time to return the Shire Rose pendant to the Elves was fast approaching....but would Amorey be able to do it ? Would she be strong enough to face this great journey alone ?  She dipped her quill in the ink pot and  wrote her last few words in her letter to Amorey

'...just  remember Amorey, whenever you are confronted with an unkind opponent, conquer him with love. Be like a silver fountain of gladness making everything and everyone  near you smile at the sound of your voice and music. Merry Yule my dear, wishing you all the joy and love you deserve .

With lots of love, your cousin, yule'
