Balan: simply, 'Power'.
... something was said in jest to me that should not have been, for it has aroused a terrible desire and jealousy within me.
'And I shall be forever more powerful than you will ever become,' it said to me. Already the moment had been a one of weakness for me, as I had been overtaken by many people at once clamoring for my attention, and went to him for a moment of laughter and comfort.
I recieved laughter, yes, and comfort, but he whom I went to perhaps knows not what his half-serious words have done. By what right do those with inherent strength earn such? I have seen great powers be unworthy of the deeds they turn their attentions to, and I have seen beggars upon streets with nobler hearts and intentions than kings.
Who says, 'This one shall rule, and this one shall serve?'
Who says, 'This one shall remain weak, and this one shall remain over him?'
... how dare. Who dare? None but I should judge my own power!
