Ponso was born in Needlehole, to a fishing family, the Pondhoppers. He grew up with a love of the outdoors and can be seen in all corners of the Shire, looking for the ideal stretch of river, or hunting wild boar. He spent many months looking after the house of an old man who was away East with the elves, but now has a little place of his own, that he inherited from Lulufere, the love of his life. He has his own little vegetable garden and grows his own food.

It's nearly a year now since Ponso founded the Shire Museum of Hunting and Fishing. Here, you will find every kind of fish caught in Middle Earth and lots of other exhibits besides. More importantly, he has set up a small fishing hatchery in the garden that he uses to restock the nearby pond with catfish. Ask him for a guided tour; he will be delighted to show you round.
