Sharp and inquisitive features almost conceal Elhaelin's troubled thoughts, though a perceptive character would see the sorrow in his searching eyes that resemble the sky on a frigid winter dusk.

Aside from this shimmer of pain in his eye, nothing about him betrays his venerable age. He has a full head of hair, brown as oak bark, typically resting at the back of his neck.

Elhaelin's clothes range from either beautifully gilded and formal, to subtle and practical, though they are also of exquisite quality, clean and well-pressed.

Background

((Author's Note: I know this is a bit long, sorry. I did attempt to keep it brief, but 7000 years is a lot of life to cover)).

Born to a Falmari father and a Ñoldorin mother early in the Years of the Trees 1495, Elhaelin was the equivalent to seven solar years old when the kinslaying of Alqualondë took place.

Elhaelin's father, Tolumendil, a shipbuilder of Alqualondë, who called his son "Tamtandil (Lover of Construction)" in the hopes he would follow his craft, was murdered in the kinslaying.

It was by luck or perhaps fate that Elhaelin was with his mother in Araman. Elhaelin's mother, Laurewendë, was a Chambermaiden of Eärwen. She and other reluctant Ñoldor were dragging their feet in their preparations to leave Valinor. When news of Tolumendil's death reached her upon the return of Finarfin's host, she, in her sorrow, gave Elhaelin the amilessë "Aṃbartion (Son of Doom/Fate)," a name Elhaelin would grow to resent.

Though Eärwen and Finarfin would choose to turn back, their children did not. Out of concern for her child, Eärwen granted her servants to Galadriel, including Laurewendë. And so, Elhaelin continued to Middle-Earth in Fingolfin's Host.

Pitied by the Ñoldorin, Elhaelin was a ward to all but his mother, who became reclusive in her mourning. She lacked the will to survive the perilous Helcaraxë and would soon succumb to the cold.

Elhaelin survived but by the kindness and sacrifice of his kin.

By the time their host crossed the Helcaraxë, Elhaelin had undergone puberty but was not yet considered fully grown. Nevertheless, out of survival, Elhaelin had increasing duties to assist the host.

Elhaelin learned from all he could all that he could, proving an inquisitive and thoughtful youth.

His nature of wisdom and knowledge brought him in closer with Turgon's ilk, whom he followed to the establishment of Vinyamar and later Gondolin. During his time in Vinyamar, Elhaelin began learning alongside a prodigy of Ñoldorin and Sindarin descent called Pengolodh; the two were studying to become Lambengolmor.

Within Gondolin, Elhaelin knew peace for the first time in his life, though knowledge that the War in Beleriand was happening laid as a shadow in the back of his mind which he tried in vain to ignore. During this time, he learnt fully Sindarin and dedicated his time acting as a sort of diplomat between the various subgroups of Elves, preaching often their need for peace and unity. Pengolodh went from being Elhaelin's peer to becoming his teacher and friend, as he far surpassed Elhaelin in ability, something which Elhaelin struggled with for a time before making peace with when it became impossible to deny his brilliance.

Their friendship grew and, one eve, as Elhaelin remarked on how alienated his felt by his names, it was Pengolodh who recommended the Sindarin epessë of "Elhaelin (Star of Wisdom)," which he would henceforth go by.

At 512 solar years old, Elhaelin was conscripted to fight in the Nírnaeth Arnoediad. His first taste of true war, Elhaelin was greatly reluctant to go, if for no other reason than his lingering resentment of Fëanor and his sons for their betrayal and the murder of Elhaelin's father. Fighting in a phalanx, the Elves of Gondolin relieved Fingon in the west, but with Maedhros' defeat in the east, retreat was a necessity. Elhaelin felt no pleasure at Maedhros' death even with his resentment, and the sight of so many fallen Elves caused him to at last truly set aside his personal bitterness in favour of collective good.

Elhaelin spent the next few decades tending to the many injured who had returned with them to Gondolin until the city's fall. Separated from Pengolodh, Elhaelin found his way out of the city with as a refugee to the east. There, he would remain in hiding amongst the Green Elves of Ossiriand.

Midway through the War of Wrath, ashamed at his cowardice, he would eventually rally to Gil-Galad's banner where he fought throughout the rest of the war, providing his knowledge, wisdom, and, of course, his sword.

Feeling as though he had spent far too much time shying away from hardship, Elhaelin would pledge to never again stick his head in the sand during times of strife.

Amazed by the young Gil-Galad's leadership, after the sinking of Beleriand, Elhaelin dedicated himself quite wholeheartedly to line of the High Kings of the Ñoldor. As before he would spend the following decades within the new realm of Lindon aiding in the healing and recovery of the survivors of the War of Wrath's battles. Finding himself a wavering member of the phalanx unit and a shoddy swordsman, Elhaelin endeavoured to focus his attention primarily on advising, leading and healing, being no great warrior.

The first millennium and a half of the Second Age were among the happiest days of Elhaelin's life. No strife, no great danger. Gondolin without the guilt. It was during this time he got the vast majority of his writing and studying done, he reunited briefly with Pengolodh, overjoyed by his friend's survival.

This peace was, of course, destroyed by the deception of Sauron as war broke out against between Sauron and the Elves again. Though he wished to go with Elrond to support Eregion so as to not repeat his mistakes of the past, he was commanded to remain within Lindon in case it was the next to be attacked by the Enemy.

When the Faithful landed on the continent, Elhaelin joined a cohort of emissaries to Arnor to act as one of Lindon's lesser diplomats with the fledgling kingdom. With the Last Alliance of Men and Elves negotiated, Elhaelin served as a lieutenant within Gil-Galad's army, where he would manage field camps. He did not see much of the Battle of Dagorlad, leading a unit at the Rearguard. The Siege of Barad-dûr was a hard time but little he had not seen before by this point, he was primarily glad to be on the other side of a siege.

Victory was bittersweet with the death of Gil-Galad whom Elhaelin had grown to essentially idolise by this point. Though Lord Elrond did not accept the High Kingship of the Ñoldor, he was the next in line to the throne and that, combined with Elrond's impressive history, was enough for Elhaelin to pledge himself to Elrond as if he were High King.

He would return to Imladris with Elrond and assist in tending the injured of the war, something he was well-regarded for his experience in.

Over the first millennium of the Third Age, Elhaelin enjoyed another era of relative quiet, occasionally being sent on diplomatic missions to Gondor, Lórien, and Greenwood the Great. However, unlike the previous age, he knew that the threat remained and to be ever wary of it, holding vigilant as his Lord did.

His visits to Greenwood the Great became increasingly filled with reports of the hints of shadow coming from the south of the great forest. These trips abroad were cut short with the War in the North, as Imladris focused its efforts on opposing the Witch-King of Angmar. Elhaelin would serve under Glorfindel's force that Elrond sent to fight in the Battle of Fornost.

With the beginning of the Watchful Peace, Elhaelin was sent to Mirkwood semi-permanently as an emissary, though in truth his purpose was secretly to monitor the evils of Dol Guldur.

After the White Council finally drives out the Necromancer from Dol Guldur, Elhaelin returns to Imladris. As Sauron's presence becomes all but confirmed, the Elves of the Last Homely House begin their preparations to either leave or for one last war. Though Lord Elrond encourages most of his people to begin with the former, Elhaelin explains that in repentence for his past cowardice, he refuses to leave until the darkness of Sauron is assuredly defeated. He would not bring his sorrow, guilt and worry to Aman.

His peace, reliant on the peace of Middle-Earth, would be achieved or he would die trying. The new stewards of this world would not forget the mistakes and lessons of the Elves' past... not whilst Elhaelin held breath.
