Outward Appearance

This grim faced warrior has the bearing of the Noldor, being one under the service of the House of Elrond as a guard. Tall, quiet and calm, he would seldom draw attention to himself, save perhaps for his well kept armor. His keen grey-eyes are ever watchful, though giving some measure of insight to his solemn and taciturn nature, but also to a constant hint of curiosity.

Background

Aikaráto was born in Imladris, in the year 3276 of the Second Age, to a healer of Maitimo’s folk from Himring and a former captain of the Golden Flower of Gondolin. He grew to be tall and fair, but not one who seemed mighty of arms. Turceuto, his father, took to teach him the art of healing, though inconsistent those sessions were. Against his father’s wishes, Calaurë, Aikaráto’s mother insisted on making sure he knew also how to defend himself, teaching him to wield sword and shield. Aikaráto grew swifter in skill on the later, much to Turceuto’s displeasure, but his heart was more in mending wounds than inflicting them, even if it was against the servants of the enemy. Since the education Turceuto tended to give his son was inconsistent and depended on his willingness and ill temper to be at ease, Aikaráto became an apprentice to Eliriael of Gondolin, learning under her whenever she wandered to Imladris.

The enduring peace he grew to enjoy in his childhood lasted for little more than a hundred Winters. War between Barad-dûr, elves and men spread through Middle-earth and Gil-galad assembled a mighty host to answer Elendil’s call for aid. Aikaráto loved neither sword nor conflict, but he was unwilling to join the host of the Eldar as a healer when he deemed his skills still inappropriate on that field. But he was also loath to stay behind, because his closest friend, Tarmacil, was to set also to battle. They were like brothers, and for that bond Aikaráto took sword, shield and spear, joining the host as they assembled in Imladris, readying to march South.

Long and taxing was that conflict, but Aikaráto had inherited the resilience of his ancestors, becoming stronger and skilled through hardship. Tarmacil, however, was not so lucky. It was then Aikaráto realized whatever skill he possessed in healing was waning, for it was said among the Eldar that those who took lives could not bring healing, he could no longer pursue that calling. Instead, he had Tarmacil’s sword and a promise to keep: to protect the Eldar where his brother-in-arms could not anymore.
