Tales of a Gutsy Traveller
Part IV
How can I repay you, brother mine?
How can I expect you to forgive?
Clinging to the past, I shed our blood.
And shattered your chance to live.
Let me tell you a bit more about my past. In the beginning of this book I am writing I didn't mention my brother did I now? Well than, let me tell you about the journeys of the only two survivors of the raid on my village; my brother and me. We were always really close and got along well, we always blamed ourselves when something happened to the other.
Without horses we walked and walked and walked through the plains of Rohan. It went slow... We had to get through the gap of Rohan before it could be closed by the enemy and we would have to stay in this beautiful yet forsaken land. We were on schedule and were moving up quite nicely.
At night we ate and evaluated our progress at a campfire. I studied my map, looked around and said: ''The gap of Rohan is only one day away.'' ''We have to set up a watch...'' He said. ''I'll go first.'' I said. ''I'll wake you up in a few hours. Good night.'' He went asleep and I stood up and took out a empty book that my father gave me to write something in... I have had this thing for 5 years and I finally know what to write in it... this. I leaned against a tree and started writing about my life. I heard some twigs breaking and put away the book. I grabbed my bow and silently waked my brother, who sleeps with a dagger and almost sliced my throat with it...
We stood side to side and both took an arrow preparing to shoot. We listened and heard heavy breathing coming from all sides. As enthusiastic as my brother is he whispered: ''Guess we'll be having some fun tonight.'' We counted and my brother thought there were 5 and I said 4, we decided to count on the worst. We both were trained archers so we probably could take out 2 of them with our arrows. One of the attackers held up his hand and they came charging at us in pairs of 2. Not smart... We stood back to back with our bows ready to shoot. One pair came charging at my brother and the other pair came charging at me. As none of them had shields we shot our arrows and both hit one of each pair killing them. We dropped our bows and both took our two swords. Defending ourselves from the attackers who were enraged and swung their swords at us we didn't see an opening to attack. ''We have to use our combo technique!'' I shouted. ''Aye, I guess we do!'' my brother shouted back.
Still defending and dodging attacks we prepared to execute our technique and stood back to back again. Firstly we had to see if there was a pattern in our opponents their attacks, and there wasn't.... So we had to do it at the exact right moment to make it work. We counted down at the same time: ''3, 2, 1.... NOW!'' With all our strength we surprised them and stunned them for a little moment. Right after they understood what the situation was again I sort of rolled around his back to the left, my brother did the same thing to the left, making us switch sides and we stabbed eachothers opponents right before they tried to attack. They dropped down to the ground and after finishing off the 2 who were still alive after being hit by a arrow we put out the fire, hid the bodies in the bushes and threw some leaves and twigs on the blood covered dirt. We ran away for it was only a matter of time before others came to check it out.
After being in a safe distance we arrived at a little dirt path leading us to the gap of Rohan. It was safe to walk now. And together we started singing happily; the song we thought off with the two of us.
And how can I make amends?
For all that I took from you?
I led you with hopeless dreams,
My brother, I was a fool.
