Little Doe (Narys's Song)

It was a dark lullaby. Most lullabies are played for assurance, presence, soothing. This one seemed to assure only a lonely, injust anguish. Sore farewells that never took place. The despairs of being forgotten.

Lulling the listener into a dangerous slumber to strip it all away.

"Deer in green shadows
Her home, her hearth.
They meet her in front
For to measure her worth

She carries it with her
while they hold her hand
surround the green shadows
seducing her land.

Emerge, little doe
Spring's sweet dewdrop in heart
Taken, drunk, used

Cloudy waters to part.

Deer in green shadows
Her home, her hearth.
She stepped before them,
hands open like heart.

She carried them with her
while hands let her go
Emerged from the shadows,
so bright gleamed the doe.

And then she did see
in the light's bright display
hope had left her alone.
Warmth and hands gone away.

Back to green shadows.
Her home, her hearth.
Torn and forgotten
Dew shattered, dark earth.

The days closed her in
her home, her hearth.
She carried them with her,
til everything hurt.

The dew drops like blood.
Wretched darkness, fell light.
And never again could the doe
crave for bright.

Now she's closed in mauve shadows,
little ghost of twilight."
