12. Gold and Blue Threads

Egfor scarcely looked up as Fearelhil lumbered into the Inn. The man wrinkled his nose, muttering, "You stink like forge."

The elf emits a soft snort and leans on the bar with his elbows, watching Egfor scribble into the Inn's ledger, "Says the farmer who stinks like manure." Egfor pauses, looking at Copper, smirking a little, "Alright, I'll give you that." Egfor set his pen in the ink pot and straightened, turning to draw Copper a tankard of frothy stout. He hands the elf the mug, "Your friend Rhavanielle is boarding here now. I hadn't a clue you got another elf."

Copper takes the stout, still slouched over as he draws a sip, "Hmm, aye. She is a scholarly type. The brains to my brawn. She is nearly my age and knows quite a bit. We have dwarven scholars, an elf who may remember dragons of ages gone by might be beneficial. I remember when the world was riddled with dragons, but I ah.. Not a scholarly brain. I recall little actual detail that may be of use."

Egfor nods, sipping his own coffee. He sets the mug down and picks up his pen once more, scribing in the ledger. "I will say, we have a solid group now. I feel we may have success. Ah! While you are here, how possible would it be to fashion the scales we do have into tips for the bolts."

Fearelhil thinks about it, sipping his stout. "I am not sure. I have never created something with dragon scale. I did bring my mithril hammer. The least I can do is try. I have something for you, by the way, Egfor." He sets his stout aside.

Egfor looked up in confusion, capping his ink pot and setting his ledger and writing utensils away, "Eh? You do?" Copper sets down some folded, brilliant deep blue fabric with gold embroidery on the sides, "This cloak was worn by me during the fall of Erebor, as well as during the Battle of the Five Armies. It has seen fights with dragons before. It was a gift to me from the dwarves."

Egfor stares, shocked, "I... I cannot take that. It has so much value to you-" Copper cuts him off with a raised hand, "You can take it, yes. It was the mantle of an Elf lord in battle and now I am giving it to a Man lord for his battle."

Egfor blanches a little at the title. Technically it was true as a result of his marriage, but it scared him. He was just a simple farmer, after all. Admittedly, he was far too worried about ruining Dem's lordly image. Egfor often wore raggedy work clothes and patched, worn peasant farmer's clothes while Dem stood next to him wearing fine, majestic clothes. He felt shameful of his common appearance at most times. He stubbornly refused to let Dem buy him anything nice for clothes, worried they would get destroyed way too easily.

He ran his fingers over the fine, rich sapphire threads, tracing the golden designs on the edge. He grasped the cloak in both hands and lifted it up off the bar, unfurling it to it's full length. He admired how the firelight shimmered and glinted off of it. He hesitated before swinging it around his shoulders. It was a surprisingly light cloak.

Copper spoke up, "Some Dwarven power woven in it. It is light, but it is meant to keep you warm in the ice and snow. Will need some slight adjustments to it. If I recall correctly, Thangtan knows how to alter and sew Dwarven garments. Take it to him to alter it."

Egfor nods, pulling the hood adorned with a gold tassel in the back up over his head. He stepped over to peer at his reflection in the mirror. He let out a breathless gasp at what he saw, staring at his reflection. Staring back at him was a tall, regal and elegant man, wrapped in gold and jewel tones. A lordly looking man full of confidence and grace. Perhaps now, he wouldn't feel like he was bringing shame to his husband's image or name.

Egfor turned to admire it from all angles. He strode over and flung his arms around the unsuspecting elf. Copper squawked a little, not at all used to hugs or physical contact and affection from people other than his partner. The elf hesitated before awkwardly hugging Egfor back.

Egfor squeezes the poor elf affectionately, "Thank you, Fearelhil. I shall treasure it greatly. I will wear it with pride and honour, I will be sure to slay this beast with it on my shoulders."
