Essebrin Lockhart a young woman, a watcher, a Bree-lander. In her own eyes, she was average, one other person in a sea of faces. To other people, she was a diamond in the rough. They say that the only opinion that should matter is your own. And right now she was questioning her own ability to protect the people she cared for. Mortermon was among those people and now he was dead. There are things in the world that you cannot even begin to predict. More and more Essie was beginning to see what life was like wearing the uniform. Mortermon was a Lossoth but he had come to make Bree his home like many other outsiders. She would remember him fondly, for his calm temperament and wit, he was one of the few that seemed to believe that she was of any use to anyone. She sat alone at a nook between two houses. A bird fountain next to her, she stared down into the water, peering at her expressionless face. When did her emotions go out the window? Numbness. How many more deaths would there be during this job? Her Father did this for nearly twenty years, she started this job only four months ago now. There would be no more adventures across town with Son of Snow and Ice. He was an outsider, but he cared about the town more than most locals. That, that was saying something. She chewed on her lip, then after a moment of silence, she would slam her foot into the bird fountain in a fit of agony. A foolish idea, because now her foot was throbbing, she failed to tip the bird fountain over. Solid concrete of course! She dropped to her knees and wept alone. Gripping the grass beneath her. "Goodbye Mort. I'm sorry tha' I wasn't fast enough. I'm sorry tha' ye' were too good fer' this world. I have t' do better. I have t' do better." Essie was not one to cry, not often and if she did, no one would know. What was happening to the town she had lived in all her life? Madness, simply, Madness.
