Verses from "The Long Night"

Some verses shared with Diruviel by a guest in Imladris many years past. She believes it is but a part of a longer poem celebrating midwinter. Perhaps she'll come across the rest of it one day, but for now, it brings cheer during the long, cold nights.

"The Long Night"

Twilight growing, stars are twinkling

As they above in sky are winking

Winter’s breath has come at last

As it has for Ages past

Ice wind blows through vale and stone

Piercing cold right to the bone

Yet what ahead is glowing fairly

With golden light so warm and merry?

Windows laced with boughs of green

Lanterns burning in between

Merry dancing, Yule-tide chatter

Food heaped high atop the platter

Joyous singing, laughter start

Stories told to warm the heart

So gather round, ye friends with cheer

On this, the long night of the year.
