A Hopeful Interlude

Calidis stands upon the peak of the highest point of the island that the House of Three Graces is situated upon, with the rising sun making itself known upon the horizon where the sky meets the sea. Long after the others had left to turn into the massive house she had remained here through the night, finding that she did not feel the need to sleep at all. Instead, she spent the night in silent, awed contemplation as she looked out to the seemingly endless expanse of sea towards the east. It was and is still a marvel to her. She who has never been outside the confines of Imladris for so many years - and never outside of Eregion before that - has also never seen so much water in one place in her entire long life.

She had earlier realized just how much of the this world - that she could never see herself leaving - she had missed in her long years of isolation. Even now, this brings her as much sorrow as it does joy. A few tears had been shed and even now they still trickle down her fair cheeks intermittently. But they are not tears shed in pain or despair. No, these tears are something else altogether; nothing that she can put words to.

All Calidis knows is that she finds the this place to be one of the most beautiful things she has ever seen in her long life. She half fears - foolishly, she knows - that if she looks away from it that it will all disappear; that all of this will be naught but a dream.

What else in this world has she missed out on in her long years of solitude?

The wind begins to play with her unbound and semi-messy locks of dark hair as a song bursts forth from her lips; somewhat hoarse from her tears and untrained but still pretty enough - reminiscent of her mother's oft loved voice.

"Soft as the voice of a spring breeze, breathing a lesson unheard, hope, with a gentle persuasion, whispers her comforting word. Wait till the darkness is over. Wait till the tempest is done. Hope for the sunshine tomorrow after the shower is gone."

The wind carries her voice through the air and dries the tear tracks from her cheeks. A rare smile, soft but genuine and unspoiled by darkness, appears on her lips as she brings her song to a close.

"Whispering hope... Oh, how welcome thy voice, making my heart in its sorrow rejoice."

Calidis remains standing in stillness and quietude, for a little while after the last echoes of her song fade away from the air. And then, she gathers herself together in her mind and dries the lingering remnants of tears from her black eyes. With the morning sun, she is no longer overwhelmed and caught up in the waves of her own emotion. Once again, she is Calidis of Imladris - she who is surrounded on all sides by both friends and troubles. There is still peril and danger to be dealt with and she will have no choice but to rise up to meet it as best she can. Whether she fails, falters, or passes the day victorious, there is still the day after to deal with. And the day after that, and the day after that.

She is no closer to, once more, becoming she who was Calidis of Eregion than she was the day previous. But, perhaps now she might have a bit more hope to bolster her fragile spirit.
