The Family You Choose
By Zur
The family you choose is a promise you make,
to try your best, to give not take.
To swear your vows, for the words to ring true,
that you won't give up - that they can count on you.
But destiny has greater plans than the ones you draft,
"You thought you could best fate? Pfft, don't be daft!"
The arrogance that typifies your kind,
only misery and misfortune will you e'er find.
Did you not learn from your history?
Dragon fire, war, death - none of it's a mystery,
to you, or any of your race,
and that's why you will remain e'er a disgrace.
Now you sit, in the blood of your brothers,
prick your ears and you'll hear the howls of their mothers.
A world away, but their hearts did once beat as one,
so let me in - the madness has won.
Open the door, let me in,
Show me the room, and what lies within.
The dark, the emptiness, and the strings I'll tug,
you can plant your feet, but I'll pull out the rug.
Zurri is gone. Zurri is lost.
I dance on his grave, without any cost.
Zurri is finished. Zurri is dead.
The fool's locked away, inside his own head.
You can cry all you like, you can plead for chances,
but all you'll receive now are the frightened glances
of those who pass you by.
