A Durin's Day Picnic Basket

Sitting before you is a rectangular picnic basket. All the foods inside are neatly wrapped in Kithri's signature leaf painted beeswax wrap.

Sitting on top, and by far the largest thing is a bundle of pastries. Soft, delicate and sweet pastry wrapped around two delicious fillings. One is an apple filling, the apples are sweet and while well cooked, still hold a touch of their crispness. They're sweetened with brown sugar and lightly spiced. The second filling is of a blackberry make. It's honey sweet and tart at the same time.

Next to it is a bag of blackberries, some of the same you went to pick with her the other day.

Beneath that is two loaves of bread, they are thin and long, but they are crisp and fresh on the outside, and soft on the inside.

Next to that are several smoked sausages, and a few blocks of cheese: a sharp cheddar, a smoky gouda, and a small chunk of a smooth Beaufort.

Alongside those is a small pouch of longbottom leaf.

Sitting at the bottom is a small blanket, simply made, and of a tan color as to not grab too much attention, but soft and warm. If he were to lift out the blanket he would find a small flask and a note. The stationary is painted with acorns and autumn leaves and says the following:

I hope when you eat this meal, you are reminded at least in some part of home, or rather of the good parts of home. I hope you feel the safety of four walls and the singing of stone. The warmth of a hearth and the joy of a full belly. I hope you feel the love of a home cooked meal and the comfort of a long night with friends, filled with story and song. I hope most of all, you have a wonderful Durin's Day.

P.S. This is my flask, and when I next return I would like to have it back. I leave it now in your care. It is filled with a strong Dwarven Whiskey, from the barrels of a friend of mine. I hope it warms you on cold nights.

Ever your friend,

Kithri
