The Worth of a Brigand

Ecladhreth flings himself out of the chair and rushes for the kitchen door his feet slipping before he makes it out. He hits the stairs and gets up the sound of boots behind him. He  whistles for his mare and climbs on her as soon as she is close the feeling of a hand grabbing for his belt causing him a bit of panic. He nudges her into a hard gallop and holds on as he rushes towards the gate, the sound of hooves behind him. He makes it out and heads towards the fields where Wyetta has gone earlier. Maybe saying he was born into a brigand tribe was a bad idea.

*chat log start, minor corrections*

Ecladhreth holds his mare's mane tightly, his breath coming in short gasps before he slides off of her back. He notices Wyetta and gives her a confused look.Wyetta was scrambling up the hill, a large man giving her chase. "Come 'ack here!" He said grabbing her by the hair and yanking her backward. Yetti screamed, grabbing onto her head. She didn't see Eclad, her vision had been focused on Mightnight who laid on the ground not far three arrows stuck out of the horse and he was dying.
Ecladhreth begins to shake at what he sees. He grabs Berry's mane and pulls himself up. He grips his legs tight and sends her in a bolt towards the Breegate. Berry takes Eclad to the guard house instead and he falls from her back once there. He tries to sign but due to his shaking, he can't seem to get anything clear out.

Wingate roars when he sees him. "Didn't I tell you to get out of my sight?" He stands up in his stirrups, his sword hand on his hilt. Ecladhreth cowers and looks at the man, his eyes wide and full of fear. He makes a pained face as he does his best to speak. 'Wy-e-tt-t-ta...Att-ttt-tacked.' He comes out in a graveled and harsh tone and he rubs his throat after, clearly pained.

Wingate sits back down slowly, his eyes wide. He moves his hand from his hilt, understanding. "Show me where, we must get there quickly. Now!" Ecladhreth grabs Berry's mane as he steadies his shaking legs. He mounts her and nudges her into a hard gallop across the field. He hears the sound of Ramsay pressing his mount hard to keep up.

Ecladhreth dismounts next to Midnights body once he gets there. He moves over to the horse and touches his side. Wingate reins up hard, his spurs bloody. He kneels next to the horse. Ecladhreth shakes his head but points a finger towards the grove below. He looks at the arrows in the horses flank and turns pale. Wyetta started screaming from inside the tent. And then the screams stopped.

Wingate lets his hand drop, standing up. His head snapped to the grove, his jaw clenching. "Eclad. Can you fight?"

Ecladhreth shakes a bit but nods slowly. He grabs a sword on the ground that was probably from another traveler who had gotten too close.

Wingate draws his sword angrily, whipping his head around to look at Eclad. "We do not have time to assess the enemy. We need to go, now. Stay behind me." He crouches low and moves quickly, heading for the treeline.

Ecladhreth follows him with almost silent steps as his eyes dart among the figures there.

There were four brigands, total in the camp one was on guard, two were around the fire, and one was in the tent with Yetti.

Wingate looks at Eclad, hoping he was paying attention. He picked up a rock and threw it next to the brigand on guard, in hopes that he would turn around to

investigate. If he did, Ramsay would plunge his sword into his back and thrust it up to kill him quickly.

Ecladhreth pales even more at the sight but he looks to those by the fire. He points to the one on the left most.

Wingate nods, moving up farther to get his sight on the man on the right. He pulls a knife from his boot and takes aim, waiting for Eclad to make the first move.

The sound of fists on flesh would be heard from the tent and muffled cries. Wingate winces at the noises, but doesn't dare to speak. Ecladhreth clenches his jaw and stalks forward at a crouch through the grass. He makes it behind the brigand and lifts the sword before stabbing it through the back of his neck through to the front."Teach you a lesson t'night eh cow!" Came a voice from the tent. "Run-a-man down... Could'a hurt me with that horse. But now you goin' ta hurt!" A loud slap!

Wingate lets the knife fly with a practiced flick of his hand, advancing to finish the man off if he was not dead.

Ecladhreth closes his eyes at the display of blood. He shudders and pulls his sword out of the dead man.

Wingate makes his way to the tent, signaling to Eclad to open the flap on his command. He sheathed his bloody sword, planning to take his time killing the last brigand. He nods to Eclad, steeling himself for the oncoming fight.

Ecladhreth moves over to the tent and grabs the flap. He pulls it open in a harsh motion.

Wyetta had been bound and gagged. She was currently sitting against the post of the tent, tied to it while the man punched her in the face and stomach. Both her eyes would be blackened. Her nose would be bleeding and her lips split. Tears leaked from her closed eyes.

The brigand turns around "What the 'ell!" as Wingate let out a battle cry and charges into the tent. His plated shoulder preceding him in his attempt to knock the brigand to the floor.

Ecladhreth freezes as he recognizes the man. He swallows hard and holds his sword in shaking hands while trying not to cower. The brigand, surprised, is knocked to the ground by Ramsey. Wingate gets on top of the man, beginning to smash his face with clenched fists. He felt his knuckles fracture and blood spray his face. He stopped only because he wanted the brute alive. He staggered as he stood, head spinning. "Is she alive?"
Ecladhreth moves toward Wyetta and begins to untie her before checking her wounds. Yetti was alive just beaten and bruised.

Wingate stumbles his way over to the two, examining her wounds for himself. He rips off his glove and pressed two fingers to her neck to check for a pulse. "She's still breathing. Let's get her out of this tent."

Ecladhreth nods and points at the brute. He moves to grab the brigand with a rather cold look. The brigand was unconscious thanks to Wingate pummeling him bloody. Wingate slides his arms underneath Yetti, carrying her out of the tent and closer to the fire. "Hey, Yetti, can you hear me?"

Wyetta wasn't unconscious. She was crying. She heard familiar voices but there was too much pain when she tried to open her eyes so they just stayed closed. "Help me..." She sobbed softly.

Ecladhreth grabs the brigand by the tunic and sits him up before slipping one of the large man's arms over his shoulders. He all but drags him out of the tent and towards the horses.

Wingate clenched his jaw, looking at Eclad. "How do I help her? I know no healing.." He propped her up against a log near the fire, kneeling down beside her with a wince.

Ecladhreth drops the man and whistles for Berry. He grabs a pack from her back and moves over. The lad's shaking hands take out a small jar of some sort of herb paste. He hands it to him along with a roll of bandages.

Wingate looks around the perimeter, hoping that no more brigands are nearby. While Eclad attends to her, he grabs a coil of rope from his own horse and drags the unconscious brigand to a tree, tying him to it.

Ecladhreth begins to very gently put the paste on bruises he saw while bandaging up some of the worst spots. He grabs a water skin from his bag and some mint which he puts into it before shaking it. He holds the water skin to Wyetta's lips

Wyetta took a drink of the water and then coughed. "Who are you?" She asked, confused and scared and unable to open her eyes. "What's happening? Please help me."

Wingate was hiding the brigands' bodies when he heard her speak, so he came over at once. "It's Ramsay and Eclad. Don't worry, the brigands are gone now."

Wyetta gasped! "Ramsey! Mightnight... is he okay? Where is Mightnight?!"

Ecladhreth pulls the water skin back and moves towards the brigand by the tree. He kicks the brigand's foot to see if he would wake. The brigand did not wake.

Wingate winced and looked away, not being able to look her in the face. He wants to lie to her, but he can't. "Mightnight didn't make it..."

Ecladhreth looks more relaxed as he begins to tend the brigand's face knowing that the man wouldn't wake though his hands still shook.

Wyetta started crying harder. Mightnight was her best friend...

Wingate sat next to her, wrapping his arms around her protectively. He didn't know what to say, so he just watched Eclad and the brigand.

Wyetta hugged Ramsey tightly and sobbed.

Ecladhreth looks towards Wyetta with a look of sympathy before he finished tending the brigand. Once done he took a few steps back.

Wingate rested his chin atop Yetti's head as she cried and looked to Eclad. "Is there anything more you can give her for the pain? She took a beating, poor girl."

Ecladhreth nods and looks through his bag. He pulls out some poppy seed and lavender. He puts them in the water skin and shakes it for a bit before handing it over to Ramsey.

Wingate removes his head to look down at her, offering her the skin. "Do you want it? It will help with the pain."

Wyetta nodded. She was hurting everywhere and her heart. Poor Mightnight.

Wingate handed the skin to her, eyeing the unconscious brigand. He couldn't wait to make the man pay.  "Eclad, give our friend there a little shake, see if he wants to wake up from his nap."

Ecladhreth watches before looking to Wingate. He nods and slaps the brigand to wake him while hoping the man wouldn't recognize him though he probably would.

Wyetta chugged a good bit from the water skin and then coughed. The brigand grumbled and opened a bloody eye to look at Eclad. "You?"

Ecladhreth winces a bit and takes a deep breath before nodding slowly. He gives the brigand a wary look as he crouches to be eye level with the man.

Wingate shielded Yetti from the brigand's view, raising an eyebrow at his words. "You know him, Eclad?"

Ecladhreth shudders a bit though his head moves in an affirming motion.

Wingate stood, being careful not to rattle Yetti. His sword, hands, and face were decorated with blood splatters as he approached Eclad. "He one of your old buddies from your little group of murderers?" His voice raised with each word, ending in a shout.

Ecladhreth cowers, his whole body shaking as his knees hit the ground and his hands over his head.

Wingate spits on the ground to the side of Eclad, turning on his heel to face the brigand. He squats to eye level, grabbing the man's collar to bring him close. "So, you like hitting women, do you?"

The brigand spits blood in Wingate's face. "Ain't nothin' the lil cow didn't deserve."

Wingate would laugh, slowly wiping the blood off his face. His fist suddenly flashed to land a punch along the man's jaw. "What was that? I don't think I heard you correctly."

Ecladhreth moves away from the pair suddenly feeling sick. He looks to the brigand with a wave of sudden anger. "L-li-k-k-ke my m-m-mother?"He voice was dry and ended in a fit of coughs.

A Stranger trots in upon hearing a nearby commotion as Yetti was still sobbing softly. The brigand's jaw made a cracking sound as Ramsey's fist smashed into it. A tooth leaving his lips from the force. "Sod off." Groaned the brigand.

Wingate scoffed. "For all I know, the two of you were working together." He walks back to Yetti and stands behind her, putting a hand on her shoulder. "We shouldn't make her watch this."

Felidious dismounts his steed "Miss Yetti?!" he speaks out

Ecladhreth winces as he watches, his gaze turning away from the scene before he looks to Wingate with a look of deep hurt.

Wingate hears a stranger approaching and draws his bloodstained sword. "Whoever you are, you shouldn't be here. Leave. Now."

Felidious holds his hands out calmly "Easy friend. I am not here to cause trouble."

Wingate sneers. "I am not your friend. Why have you come here?"

Felidious keeps his hands up in a calm manner "I heard a commotion in the area." he looks to Yetti then back to the man "Is she okay?"

Ecladhreth looks to what is happening around him before looking to the brigand. He moves to crouch before the man again, anger in his eyes.Yetti fell over. The poppy and lavender she'd been given for the pain making her dizzy and tired.

Wingate sheaths his sword slowly. "That's no concern of yours." He walks back to her and helps her sit up again, taking a seat next to her to keep her steady. "You shouldn't be here," he said again.

Felidious takes a step closer "I'm a friend of hers. Get her back to Bree."

Wingate shot a deadly look at the man. "Look at her, she can't travel."

Ecladhreth listens to the voices of those around, his eyes darting between them all.

Felidious looks at her again "Then let me have a look."

Wyetta had been beaten pretty badly by the brigand. Her face was swollen and bruised. Her eyes were swollen shut, her nose had dried blood that had splattered all over her face and her lips were split and swelling.

Wingate relented. "Fine. If you touch her, you lose a hand."

Felidious nods and heads on over to Yetti

Wingate watches the man closely as he approaches.

Felidious moves closer to Yetti speaking calmly "Yetti it's me, Feli. I'm here." he checks out the damage to her face "I'm so sorry this happened."

Ecladhreth stays out from underfoot as he begins to look around the camp. He looks through some bags before moving inside the tent. He tosses the bed rolls out and looks at the ground closely. Wyetta was high on the poppy and lavender water. She was a mess still with dried blood and her face swollen. She heard Feli's name and she winced. "Mister Ramsey, please take me home." She said, ignoring Feli. She didn't want the elf to see her like this and she just wanted to be out of here.

Wingate sighed, wanting to take her home but not wanting to injure her further. "Do you truly feel well enough to travel?"

Wyetta says, 'If you can hold onto me, I can sit in a saddle. Even... just to the Pony then?'

Wingate nodded reluctantly. "Alright. You can stay in my quarters there tonight, you shouldn't travel all the way home. Let us deal with this fool," he gestured to the brigand tied to the tree, "and we will be on our way."

Ecladhreth begins to dig in a spot of loose dirt with his hands. His nails scrap wood after a bit and he pulls up a small wooden chest. He pulls the chest out of the ground and walks out of the tent with it.

Felidious says, 'I will provide you with safe passage back to Bree, More like this still lurk out there.'

Wingate scowled. "We do not need your help."

Ecladhreth moves the crate to the tree and sets it down before looking between Ramsay, Yetti and the Feli.

Felidious says, 'Whether you need my help or not. I am not going to leave her.'

Wingate laughs. "I do not know who you think you are, but we desire neither your sword nor your companionship. We were more than capable of taking down the brigands here without help, and we can do it again if need be. For the final time, get out of here."

Wyetta tried to stand up. She reached an arm towards the sound of Ramsey's voice. "Can we go Mister Ramsey?"

Felidious whistles calling his horse over "I told you I am not leaving her. Now let's stop this bickering and get her out of this place so she can get treatment."

Wingate pauses "Just a moment, love. Don't move, you're going to hurt yourself." He walks over to the brigand tied to the tree and draws his knife. He slits the brigand's throat slowly, looking directly at the elf as he does so. "Tell me what to do again, and you will meet the same fate. She cares not for your presence. She has not called out for you. She doesn't want you here. Leave." Wingate looks to Eclad. "Eclad, bring the horses around and see our new friend out."

Ecladhreth nods and moves quickly to grab the horses. He grabs Wingate's first before whistling to Berry, the mare following at a stocky trot.

Wyetta says, 'Mister Thistleberry, can you please get the Mightnight's bridle?'

Felidious watches the man slit the brigand's throat in what was basically cold blood then turns to face the man again "No need for threats." he takes a step back

Ecladhreth nods and drops the reins of both Ramsay's horse and his own before moving over to Midnight.

Wingate smiles. "Good then! We're on the same page. Now go along, it's getting dark and you have a long ride ahead of you."

Wyetta doesn't address Feli at all. If he had simply ridden with her this would have never happened in the first place. But he had wanted to spend time with his other elf friend. She couldn't blame him. The elf-woman was beautiful. She waited for Ramsey to help her onto his horse.

Felidious mounts his steed "You are right, it is getting dark. I shall inform her parents."

Wingate looked at the man. "You will do no such thing. You will ride home and forget what you saw here."

Ecladhreth kneels down and begins to carefully untack Midnight. He pats the horse's neck gently before pulling the arrows out. He tosses the arrows to the side and begins to walk back with the tack.

Felidious says, 'her parents deserve to know where she'll be staying the night, don't want to worry them also do you?'

Wingate bent down to gently pick up Yetti and set her atop his horse. With one hand on her waist to keep her steady, he pushed himself up into the saddle behind her. "It is no business of yours. She is a grown woman and can handle her parents without your assistance."

Felidious tightens his grips on the reins "Get her to Bree, Miss Yetti. Again I am truly sorry." before he shoots off heading South

Ecladhreth puts Yetti's tack on Berry along with the chest from beside the tree.

Wyetta held onto Ramsey's hands.

Wingate watches the man leave, letting out an annoyed grumble. "I hate elves..." He kept one hand on Yetti's waist and used his other to grasp the reins. "Ready to move, Eclad?"

Ecladhreth nods and mounts Berry carefully. He pats the neck of the mare and looks to Ramsay.

Wingate nods back. "Lead the way, then."

Eclad leads them to the Stable near the Pony before he slips off of Berry and looks to the pair that followed him.

Wingate dismounts, picking Yetti up off of the horse and carrying her in his arms to the Pony.

Ecladhreth grabs the horses and moves them to stalls. He untacks Wingate's horse first before untacking Berry. He brushes them both down and gives them hay and water before tending to the spur ripped hide on Roach, Wingate’s horse. He grabs the chest from before and carries it into the Pony following the pair.

Bridghet pats her leg as an indicator for her dog to follow when she noticed a wounded woman being brought in and followed to investigate

Wingate takes the seat next to her, feeling quite exhausted himself. He looks up at Eclad’s approach.

Wyetta sighed and reached for him. "Don't leave me alone."

Wingate sits down.

Ecladhreth sets the chest on the ground out of the way before looking at Ramsay.

Bridghet says, 'Excuse me what's happened?'

Wingate took her hand, giving it a squeeze before releasing it with a wince. His knuckles were throbbing. "I'm not going anywhere."

Wingate stands to face the Watchwoman, waving her off. "Nothing of interest. These are private rented quarters, so if you don't mind..."

Ecladhreth stays to one of the corners while rubbing dried blood off of his tunic.

Wingate takes off his right glove, his knuckles bruised and bloody underneath. "How do you feel, Yetti?"

Bridghet sighed placing her hands on her hips she looked for a second to her dog "Barker stay" she'd turn her annoyed gaze to the man and his companion with blood on her face "As an officer of the watch it's my duty to investigate, when the people of this town are threatened, and it looks that way to me, so I ask again: What happened?"

Wingate rolled his eyes. "Yetti here," he gestures to the woman in the chair, "was captured by brigands. We saved her, and now we'd like to rest."

Wyetta says, 'Tired, a little hungry. My face hurts. Can I have a cider?'

Wyetta asked her eyes were swollen shut and blackened. Her lips were split. Dried blood was on her face. She probably needed to be cleaned up a little.

Wingate stood with visible effort. "I'll get it for you. What do you want to eat?"

Ecladhreth warily looks at the Watcher before his interest moves to the hound that followed her. He looks to Ramsay as the man stands his eyes wide and alert.

Wyetta speaks, 'Just some bread and cheese is fine. Thank you, Mister Ramsey.'

Bridghet folded her arms her expression and tone of voice somewhere between annoyance at the man's rudeness and a desire to help "Miss Ces is in the main bar she can tend to the lady, I'm not gonna take anymore of ye time then I need to, so please be co-operative which brigands and where?"

Wingate smiles. "My pleasure, Yetti." He reluctantly turns to Eclad, about to ask if he wanted anything. Instead, he turns to the Watchwoman. "We have a healer," he says as he points to Eclad. "They were in a grove just past the city gates. They're dead now. Eclad, do you want anything?"

Ecladhreth give an affirmative tilt of his head and makes a drinking motion.

'Wingate nods. "Anything else you need, Your Majesty?" He turns to the Watchwoman with a raised eyebrow and a goofy smile.

Bridghet frowned glancing at the fireplace "Damn it apparently takin' out Jasper wern't enough to break em" she'd say more to herself before turning her attention back to the group by the fire "No I don't think so I thought my raid last week broke the 'tards, but they seem to 'ave moved back into the area" she nodded at Wingate "Thank you though for your assistance, I'll inform my

captain of the situation" she looked to the woman with concern "Take good care of her won't ye?"

Wyettain shock and out of it mumbles, 'They killed my horse Midnight.'

Wingate smirks. "Well, that's what I'm trying to do." He briskly walks past the Watchwoman and makes his way to the barkeep to get their food and drink.

Wyetta started to cry again over Midnight. She loved her horse deeply. Just as much as Eclad loved his.

Bridghet sighs, 'Goodevening all: I'm sorry bout your horse miss' She patted her leg looking to her dog "Barker come"

Ecladhreth nods and moves over to Wyetta. He kneels near her and looks her face before looking through his bag.

Wingate returns a few moments later with three hot ciders and a plate of bread and cheese.

Wyetta’s face needed to be washed. There was dried blood all over her face thanks to her bloody nose. Her eyes were still swollen and turning an ugly blackish purple under them and around the outside. Her lip was split.

Wingate sets the items on the table with some difficulty and makes his way to peer over Eclad's shoulder. "Be careful."

Ecladhreth grabs a cloth and some water. He wets the cloth and very carefully begins to wash some of the dried blood off of her face.

Wingate takes his own flagon of water and takes a few steps back, pouring some on his hands to wash the blood off. He tips the rest over his head, scrubbing his face clean.

Wyetta sniffled. "Thank you." She said not sure who was cleaning her up.

Wyetta says, 'I probably look a mess. My face and head is throbbing. Have you ever been punched? I didn't know it hurt like this.'

Ecladhreth nods and grabs an ointment from his bag as well. He begins to put it on the bruises with a gentle finger. 'B-b-een at-t-tacked yes.' He is voice was quiet and hoarse.

Wingate walked back over to the pair, water dripping from his hair. He avoids the question about being punched. "I think you look tough, and tough is my kind of beautiful. Besides, if they fought like real men without binding their opponent, I think you could have given them a real run for their money."

Ecladhreth takes a couple of steps back once he is finished.

Wingate unsheathed his sword, pulling a cloth and oil from his pocket. He always had those two items with him, as a sword always looked and performed better when it was well maintained. He laid the blade flat across his lap, beginning to clean it. "So Eclad, what was it that you found earlier? You seemed to know exactly where to look for it... Suspicious."

Ecladhreth huffs a bit and moves to the chest. He opens it and takes out the orders before holding them out to Ramsay.

Wingate sets down his supplies, reading the order carefully.

Ecladhreth moves to grab one of the ciders. He takes a sip of it before looking at them over Wingate's shoulder. A gasp sounds as he notices something.

Wyetta had winced slightly when he put the salve on her bruises but didn't cry anymore. She took her cup of cider from Ramsey, listening to his words but knowing if she had been bound or not wouldn't have mattered. She was small and untrained.

Wingate looks up at Eclad. "What is it?"

Ecladhreth points to a list of weapon shipments coming from inside Bree along with plans to raid one of the local farms.

Wingate narrows his eyes. "Son of a..." He looks to Yetti. "Yetti, I think it's best if you hide out here for a few days."

Wyetta says, 'Why? Is there trouble? Mister Ramsey if there is I need to get word to my family.'

Wingate hands the order papers back to Eclad. "You need to rest, and you have no way to get there. We have a few days to prepare. I promised your father that I would help your family should the brigands threaten them, and I intend to make good on that."

Ecladhreth takes the orders and begins to read through them a bit more. He shuffles through them until he gets to one of the last pages.

Wyetta says, 'Thank you... she said and took a drink of the hot cider. It had cooled a bit and she chugged it and then rested her head back.'

Wingate handed the plate of bread and cheese to Yetti. "I will send some of my brothers tonight to give Mightnight a proper burial."

Wyetta nodded. She took the plate when it was pushed to her and she felt around it for some bread, eating bites of bread and cheese.

Ecladhreth continues to read the papers while sipping from his tankard.

Wingate finished cleaning his sword and pushed it back into its scabbard. Placing the sword belt on the table, he finally takes a sip of his own drink. He holds it with both hands, as his broken knuckles have made his right hand weak. "It's getting late."

Ecladhreth looks up and nods. He sets the orders down while slipping one of the pages into his tunic. He finishes the cider and moves towards the door.

Wingate says, 'Eclad, wait.'

Ecladhreth turns to look at Ramsay as he was called.

Wyetta says, 'don't you two dare leave me.'

Wingate sets his cup down and scratches the back of his neck. He's bad at apologies. "I misjudged you." A long pause. "Sorry."

Ecladhreth looks down his cheeks a bit more rosy. He nods before moving back over. He slips the paper back out of his tunic and sets it in his lap as he sits down. 'W-wont-t-t Leave.'

You sit.

Wingate reaches down to touch Yetti's shoulder. "I'm not leaving either, don't worry." He turns back to Eclad. "The Blackwatch could use a healer with skills such as yours. You should join me."

Ecladhreth looks at him with a surprised look before nodding with a smile.

Wingate smiles back, pleased, before looking down at Yetti. "You can sleep in the bed, Eclad the couch. I'll take the floor."

Wyetta let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. She stood slowly and then sat down on the thick rug by the fire. She curled up near it.

Ecladhreth grabs his bag and points to Wingate's hand, the one with broken knuckles.

Wingate sits next to her by the fire, taking his sword out to sharpen and clean again. He won't be sleeping tonight.

Wyetta heard Ramsey sit and she sat up, scooted over -- not seeing he had his sword out and tried to rest herself back against him.

Wyetta sits down.

Wingate moved his sword quickly, alarmed at the sudden movement. He set it down beside him and put his arms around her, watching the fire instead.

Ecladhreth begins to look through his bag. He takes out a bridle, some dried herbs, jars, a small wooden box, some bandages, and a small leather pouch. He opens it and looks through the small fish bone needles and thread. He closed it and grabbed a letter out of the bag. He takes the order page he had kept and set it next to the letter.

Wyetta shivered, not because she was cold, but because she was scared after all that had happened.

Wingate notices and holds her a little tighter. He feels terrible, no one should have had to go through that. He spaces out looking into the flames, waiting for the morning.
